~Lucy's POV~
It's been about two weeks since Natsu and I met. It was getting into November and that meant cold and rain. Don't get me wrong I actually loved rain more than most people, but only when I could be inside and warm. I had to walk from my dorm to my class in the rain and didn't even have much to look forward to when I finally got there due to the school's heating system being awful.
I glanced at my phone and seeing the time, I started to walk faster. I had less than ten minutes to get to my class. I cursed the school for making the start time 7:20 AM. I had gotten up at the last possible moment and gotten ready in approximately four minutes—close to my record. I finally got into the building and proceeded to my band class.
I could hear the faint sounds of instruments from halfway across the building. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that class gave me permanent hearing damage. I sat in my seat, pulling out my instrument when I heard the call of a certain innocent pink haired idiot.
"Lucy!" People gave him weird looks while he ran over here while I, of course, blurted out a series of greetings, none of which I could decide on as well as a few things that had no relation in between. Natsu was about to say something when the teacher told us to get out a song.
"Yes, I love this song!" I grinned putting my flute to my mouth and playing a quick scale. "Talk to you after class, but right now you should play."
Natsu hurriedly scrambled over to the drum set, raising his drum sticks, and the song started. The flutes had a quiet intro, but as soon as that was over, the bass exploded in and I cringed at the sheer volume of sound echoing in my eardrums. I swear this class had already made me partially deaf. It didn't help that Natsu was right behind me, slamming on the snare drum with precise beats while occasionally pounding his foot on the bass drum. Every time his foot punched the pedal to the kick drum, my whole world shook and I almost couldn't even play. Trust me, he was a pretty good drummer, but holy cheese he could be loud.
Soon enough, we were done and I was heading out with my ears ringing. I'm sure uncensored complaints at my sore ears were pouring out of my mouth, but even I couldn't hear them. Natsu said something that I couldn't decipher. "WHAT?!" I yelled back. He said something else, but I cut him off, "I can't hear anything."
From what I could see, Natsu just burst out laughing. I asked him why he was laughing to which he just shook his head, wiping tears from his eyes and motioning me to follow him. I followed him as he asked me a question. My ears were slowly becoming accustomed to the non-ear-killing volume of the hallways. I thought I made out, "where," and, "next class." I pointed to my English/History class. He walked in that direction as I kept making unceasing complaints. "Lucy, I'm sorry about your ears. I won't play so loud next time." I could hear him at this point, but his voice still sounded fuzzy.
"Please do," I said harshly. "Gosh, it felt like you were trying to kill me."
He looked down and said, "Tell me when we're there.
Then I realized something. "Hey, if you have such sensitive ears, how can you stand being so loud?"
"I guess I've gotten used to it at this point." He gave me what I thought might be a fake smile, but I really couldn't tell.
Then Natsu's head whipped around and he had that look in his eyes again. The look that made me feel like I would have to bail him out of jail for attempted—possibly successful—murder. I suddenly heard snickering behind me and I turned around too. I saw a new group of people. I could already tell they were about to make fun of me from the way they were looking at me. I rolled my eyes. "So, I guess someone else decided to use me as their new target, huh?" I crossed my arms.
