"I don't know?" He said shyly. He played with his fingers as he looked down at them.

"What are you afraid of me?" I said sarcastically.

"No." He looked over shaking his head.

"Why don't you go in?" His mom asked again. She was just trying to get him to make friends. He seemed socially awkward. He stood up and sat on the edge of the pool getting a feel for how cold the water is. He shivered and I did an awkward water walk to him.

"What are you doing sitting, you lazy butt?" I said pulling his arm a little. Not enough to pull him in, but enough to tell him you wanted him to get in.

"I am not lazy. It's just cold." He complained. I chuckled splashing him a little. "Hey!" He yelled wiping his hand down his face to catch the water. It dripped off his chin.

"Come on, you'll be warm once you get in," I told him. He groaned sliding in slowly. He crinkled his nose at how cold it was. It looked so cute. He held his arms over the water trying to keep them from touching the water. His black shirt stuck to his body as if desperate not to leave. Had he meant to keep his shirt on? Did he have body issues? My sister stood behind him getting out. I looked at her confused and she gave you a wink. I refrained from rolling my eyes because S/o would see it and might take it the wrong way.

"It's so cold." He breathed letting his arms slowly sink into the water.

"It's so sunny and nice outside you won't notice." I laughed.

I sat at the outside picnic table with the two families and dinner was running along smoothly. I watched my sister eat making sure she ate every last bite of burger, salad and fruit she had put on her plate. I did the same.

"S/o, eat honey." His mom whispered giving him a soft nudge with her arm. He had barely eaten anything. He had eaten the salad and fruit but refused to touch the burger.

"I'm not very hungry." He whispered back. My dad was happily talking to S/o's dad who we had now figured out was named Eric. My mom was talking to both of S/o's parents, but mostly to his mom Louis. S/o sat silently beside his mother at the end of the table. When she wasn't looking he went inside and put the burger back on the tray with the others. He hadn't even put anything on it. I looked down at my plate not wanting to say anything or question why he put it back because it might cause him some trouble. He just wasn't hungry probably since he had eaten dinner at the school like he normally did. He sat back down a moment later in his spot beside his mom.

"Well it's getting late and we really should be going." My mom said as we had finished up dinner.

"Oh if you really must go," Louis said at the door. "It really was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you again for what you did today." She brought me into a really big hug and I could hear her start to cry. I guess she had been holding back all this emotion all day for us and possibly herself. "I don't know what we would have done without you." She whispered.

"Thank you, but it really was no problem," I told her.

"Well, it would have been a problem if you didn't." She let go of me. I felt the goosebumps bumps rise on my skin from the loss of her heat.

"I'm just glad I could help before something went wrong." He smiled.

"Don't forget you a welcome over anytime you need. He is usually home because he doesn't leave much." She gave me a weak smile and ran her fingers over her waterline catching the tears. "I'm just so happy I don't have to plan a funeral." She cried. The drive home I was silent and tired. All of my exhaustion from emotional and physical stress was setting in. The fact I needed to go to school tomorrow morning was even worse. I had barely set foot in my room when my phone started ringing.

"Hello?" I questioned.

"Y/n." Cassie cried.

"Hey, Cassie." I said in a relieved and calming voice.

"I broke up with him. The cops told me the story well I was there since he wouldn't stop pleading he was innocent." She cried.

"I'm so sorry Cassie. Did they tell you he had been drinking?" I questioned.

"Yep, he's going to have one hell of a hangover. The cops are making him go to the school tomorrow with them and do an apology speech to the school, but mainly that boy." She whispered.

"Oh," I said. The one reason why I was refraining from telling people was so he could somewhat live a normal life and pick himself back up, but the cops were going to try and embarrass him to the point he would never do it again.

"He was working on it when I went over there." She said.

"Are you ok? I mean he was your first boyfriend." I said weakly.

"Yeah." She sniffed. "It's better. I noticed I wasn't the only looking girl he was looking at and he wasn't paying attention to me. I know that sounds conceited, but I don't mean it that way. He never actually took me on a date. We only had sex usually. He was just using me." She whispered.

"Are you going to school tomorrow?" I questioned.

"Well, I kinda have to. My parents aren't going to let me stay home because I rode up with my boyfriend. I didn't tell them he was the one who tried pushing that boy because they would never let me date again." She cried laughed. She sighed. "We won't be having normal classes tomorrow anyway so it will be a nice break. Besides, I'll be sitting with you all day and you will be there for me right?" She questioned.

"Yes, I will. We are going to be sitting in the gym all day tomorrow. How much of the school do you bet is going to show?" I asked.

"I think all of the school because they all want to know who was jumping and who was encouraging and I guess you since you were saving. Everyone wants to know about you." She laughed.

"I wasn't the important one in the situation. I'm just glad everyone is safe." I said. I kicked my shorts off trying to only use one hand. I gave up putting my phone on speaker phone and placing it on my nightstand beside my bed.

"But you are important in this." She said as I walked across the room to close my door. "You saved someone's life which is more than I can say." She said. I was changing into my pyjamas for the night. It was ten o'clock and I was tired. S/o trying to jump seemed like it happened so long ago. "It's just that, I don't know. I feel so suddenly free without Jay around. I knew he was going off to get high and he told me never to tell anyone or our relationship was over, but it's already over so I can say whatever I want." She said. My jaw dropped and I lunged for my phone.

"So he had been going to get high?" I questioned. I turned off my speaker phone knowing Mia was probably trying to sleep.

"Yeah, he was. All those times you asked me where he was going I knew exactly where but I always told you I didn't know and I'm so sorry for lying to you." She started to cry again.

"Cassie it's OK. That lie didn't hurt me, but it probably hurt Jay." I told her.

"How?" She asked.

"You didn't tell anyone so no one could help him," I told her.

"He deserves to hurt after what he did." She growled.

"Well, I think what the cops are doing to him is punishment enough." I laughed.

"Yeah, I guess. I guess I should let you go to bed. You are probably tired." She said.

"Yeah, a little," I said.

"Ok well, I'll see you tomorrow. Night." She said.

"Night," I said before she hung up. I sighed ending the call myself and turned picking my charging cord off the floor to plug it into my phone. I curled into bed letting myself falling asleep.
