So basically, I had a moment of tumblr fame a few years ago that I revisited via photoshop.

Or sort of.

My 'tumblr fame' was 3000+ notes on this fanart:

(Sorry for the black outlines; I screenshotted it off Tumblr lolol)

It's not even that good. It's entirely painted by me and the painting sucks, a remnant from my 'digital art on the iPad' stage.

That being said, though 3000+ isn't that much for Tumblr, it felt like a lot to me.

It was called 'Snoke's Puppet'. For those of you who aren't familiar with Star Wars (this was specifically done for The Force Awakens back when it came out), I was going off this quote:

"Snoke is using you for your power. When he gets what he wants, he'll crush you. You know it's true."
"It's too late..."

Anywho. Again, it ain't a very good painting; I think most people who reblogged it just liked the idea of it.

So what does this have to do with Photoshop?

To practice making a composite image, I made the sequel.

It's been a while (a few years??) since The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi is out now, and it seemed a good time to revisit it

It's been a while (a few years??) since The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi is out now, and it seemed a good time to revisit it. The idea is that Kylo is no longer Snoke's puppet, but Snoke still affects his actions because of the choice he made to be under Snoke in the past (hence Snoke's dark looming behind Kylo).

It's not very good either. I'm clearly not a professional with Photoshop.

The final image is composed of about five photos and my own painting and drawing. Snoke took the most work, having his head added to this body (technically emperor Palpatine's lol) and his right arm added as well from a completely separate picture. I had to try to match lighting on these three images so it looked like one image, resulting in image adjustment and painting. I had to add shadows to Snoke's face due to the fact that the original picture of him was very lit (the lighting lol) and this new image was destined to be darker.

Kylo was easier; there was some painting and some minor red glow added, but the main thing was cutting him out and blending him. I learned how to blend with a very soft eraser through this picture and it is serving me well in other projects.

All of the background below Kylo's head was painted by me as the picture of Palpatine-turned-Snoke cut off at that point.

Anyhow, I'd say it's a good start at composites.

And the main thing is that I'm getting more and more familiar with photoshop!
