I haven't posted anything here in a while...mostly because I got rid of photoshop because I'm not able to afford it for the time being.
I hadn't drawn digitally in a while, as I've been so busy working on the third draft of TAAHGL (the first story I've ever written with a third draft!), but I was struck with the desire to draw something for the story.
So here it is, Brennan in her dorm room! You might also see this in the dedication/forward chapter of the story.
It was done with Procreate on the Ipad. Procreate is an amazing app. I paid a one time fee for the app and now I just have it, so I don't have to pay monthly. I've worked with several different styluses (styli??) for ipad in my history of digital art, so if you want recommendations, let me know. The one I just got (and used for this drawing) is awesome and, best of all, CHEAP, on Amazon (bonus: that two day prime student shipping).
As you may notice, I'm not very great with understanding perspective and lighting, but I just like to draw casually, so I kind of went for the feeling I wanted rather than the technically correct elements.
Anyways, easter eggs in this drawing:
1. The 'bold, italic, regular' poster on Brennan's desk is based off a similar poster in my room. (The one in my room says 'be bold, or italic, never regular').
2. 'Girls Rule' Mug: I asked my seven year old sister what she thought the mug would say. This was the result.
3. The books: 'Winfred', 'Unexpected', 'Somnium' and 'Astoria' are my stories. Winfred and Astoria were both completed in my (very similar to this) dorm room at SIUE. 'Fangirl' is on the shelf due to my habit of re-reading fangirl at the start of every new year while I was down at SIUE, plus a nod to the first draft of TAAHGL where Brennan reads 'Fangirl'.
4. Colorado: I've been very few places (overseas or in the US), but more than one of my siblings, plus my mom, has been to Colorado. I want to go there someday. Hence the poster.
5. My bed in the dorm room is where Brennan's is in this picture for the second half of my freshman year. (Though the desk Brennan is using was my roommate's.)
6. To truly match the layout of my freshman dorm room (the same room number Brennan is assigned to at SIUE in the story), there would be another window where the poster is above Ambreen's bed. I was too lazy to draw another window, though, because I didn't want to deal with the shadows and light that would need to be dealt with as a result.
