MISSION REPORT 648

September 2nd, 2031

Today Dessa and I traveled across most of Ohio. We made pretty good time, I think. Just a little closer to our Northeastern message board. That time of year. I hope we'll find Liz and Calvin doing well. Last I heard they were with Conor though, so I'm sure they're fine. I doubt they've moved. But if they have, it'll be on the message board.

We're staying in someone's abandoned house tonight, just like most nights. It beats sleeping outside or in the car, but still...seeing all these pictures on the walls of people that are most certainly dead...it can get to you. I try not to think about it.

I had my birthday just a few days ago. 19. It's hard to imagine. On one hand it feels like I can't be that old. On the other, it feels like I should be celebrating my 70th. Time and years just seem different since the Takeover. Three and a half years of this...it feels like yesterday and a decade all at once. I really don't know what I'm trying to say...

This notebook was supposed to be full of mission reports. Something for me to look back on and be able to see all the kills we've had, all the enemy we've taken down. Something to help me keep my sanity, allow me to feel like we were making progress in making the world the way it used to be. I don't know when this started being like a diary...I suppose when we met up with Wonka and Gerald last year it did. I had a lot on my mind that I couldn't say to Dessa or anyone else, and I guess I needed to get it out. Jesus, I might as well rename this thing, "The Secret life of an Apocalyptic Teenager." Wooo.

Whatever. Mission Report sounds cooler. Besides—

"Whatcha writing?"

Maybelynne jerked slightly from her position on the bed. "Uh, just a mission report."

"Oh, boring." Sadessa said as she turned from her path to Maybelynne, and instead headed for the chair in the bedroom.

with a name like that, Dessa has no curiosity to read this. Ingenious, rig—

"Well you can write that my kill count was 2 today." Sadessa grinned.

Maybelynne shot her a look as she lifted her pen from her thick notebook. "It's not a kill unless you meant to kill them. Coming across them while you're joyriding through a mall and running them over with my car by accident does not count."

"It counts. Two kills." Sadessa said stubbornly.

Maybelynne shook her head and looked back down to her work. —ht? I let Dessa drive for a little while today and when I was taking a nap, she somehow veered off the road into a mall and ran over two O.L.. I swear—
