I could feel my heart literally breaking in my chest as Niall's lips pressed to mine. My heart was racing and tingles were flowing through my body. One of my hands met his, our fingers lacing together, my other coming up to rest on his cheek. His hand was on my shoulder, tracing little circles with his thumb, his other arm wrapped tightly around my waist.
I knew he was only feeling pity, trying to make me feel a bit better. I knew that he didn't really care for me, but I couldn't help myself, I pretended like he was doing this because he cared. I pretended that he liked me just as much as I liked him, and he was doing this because of that.
I pretended that he actually liked me, and that he cared. I pretended like he was a prince, here to take me away from everything and everyone, to save me. I knew that doing this would only hurt me more, but I knew doing it for these few seconds to gain a bit of happiness, it was useless.
"Please don't cry." Niall mumbled, pulling away from me. I knew the kiss only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity.
"I wasn't." I tried again, but he gave me this pained expression.
"Poppy, please. Please tell me whats wrong."
"It's nothing." I said, shaking my head and turning away. I noticed the clock on the wall, knowing I only had another half hour to my shift.
"Please, Poppy. Please tell me what happened." He begged, and I shook my head.
"I can't. Look, Niall, it's best if you go. I have work to do." I said quietly, not daring to look at him.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me what happened and why you cried. I don't want to think of you crying." He told me, taking my face in his hands again and making me look at him.
"I was thinking about my mum." I lied, hoping he would believe it.
"I'm sorry princess." He said, hugging me.
"It's alright. It was a long time ago." I said, letting go quickly and biting my lip.
"I'll be by later tonight, alright?" He said, kissing my cheek and turning to leave.
"Niall, no. Stay with the lads. Honestly. It was cut too close this morning."
"Then I'll wake up earlier." He said, giving me a smile before heading to leave.
"C'mon lads."
"I'll catch up." Liam said, nodding to the guys and walking over to me. I felt horrible, and I just wanted my blade.
"Hey." He said, sitting on the table beside me.
"Hi." I said quietly, biting my lip.
"Did he call you princess, or was that just my imagination?" Liam asked, and I shrugged.
"He calls me princess sometimes."
"You should feel lucky. He's waited for you a long time." Liam said, smiling.
"What?" I said, finally looking up at him.
"Niall, he's been waiting for his princess a long time." He said, standing up and hugging me.
"I don't think so." I said, shaking my head.
"What? Why?"
"He's Niall Horan. He could have any girl on the planet, why in the world would he want... Me?" I said, disgusted with myself for even believing for a moment that I'd be good enough for Niall.
"You don't see it, but he does." Liam said, smiling and heading out.
"The blonde really likes you." Mrs. Anderson said, walking past me.
