chapter ten

REY'S POV

    All of the sudden, Finn gets real flustered and takes off towards the tech group. I lean over close to Poe.
"Where's he going?" I ask.
He looks startled by our closeness at the moment, but he doesn't move away.
"Rose. I bet he told you about her," he chuckles. "I understand why you didn't see her. She's a little vertically challenged," He jokes.
I pat him on the shoulder, and he grins. For one fleeting moment, our eyes meet, and as much as I don't want to, I look away, trying to hide my suddenly red cheeks.
"I'll go introduce myself," I set off in Rose's direction, and I hear Poe follow behind me. But as I get closer, I see them talking. Sitting close, knees touching. There's an awkward space between them, and there's a regretful grimace on Finns face. I stop abruptly; I don't want to ruin this reunion. Poe runs right into me, not realizing I had stopped.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry," He says, acting flustered. I nod, and look ahead again.
"Poe?"
"Yeah?"
"What really happened between them? Finn and Rose. The way Finn talked about her was like they were the best of friends, but..." I trail off, trying to find the right words.
"But what?" He asks politely. There's sympathy and something else etched into his understanding smile; but I can't put my finger on it.
"But look at them. They seem so awkward. What happened on Crait?" I can also sense something happened, but I'm new to the Force, so I don't know if what I'm sending is completely accurate.
Poe's heavy exhale awakes me from my trance, and he's now facing me, a hand on my arm. He starts to pull me away from them, and behind a few stacked boxes.
"I really shouldn't be telling you this, and now that I think about it, I didn't need to take you over here to talk to you, I mean they wouldn't have been able to hear-"
"You're rambling, Poe," I interrupt, trying to hide my annoyance. Why is he so nervous around me?
"Right. Okay. Earlier today, before I got pulled into the water by that giant snake thing, Finn told me some- stuff. He said that Rose," he trails off this time, as if considering whether or not to tell me about what happened. But now I can sense resolve, and he blurts it out.
"She kissed him."
I guess he can tell how shocked I must look, so he makes a move to hold my hand, but he thinks better of it, and just leaves it at his side.
"I don't know if he feels the same way about her. Honestly, I just think he's torn."
Torn? Between what? Rose and his duty to the Resistance? That's not Finn. So what the hell is going on?
"Torn between...?" I question.
      Poe says nothing, but his eyes say it all.
"Oh. My." I take a seat on one of the boxes. Finn is my friend. My very best friend. How long has he- had feelings for me, I wonder. I feel like my world is crashing down around me. Well, more so than it already was.
"I still think you should introduce yourself. It'd be good for this whole thing we're- I mean you're in right now." There's that flustered look again. He rubs his temples and paces a bit. I want him to feel comfortable around me. But right now my priority is to meet Rose in person.

      She notices me approaching her right away, and stands up, brushing off her uniform.
"Holy crap," she says not so quietly.
"I'm assuming you're Rose. Finn has told me a lot about you."
Rose looks up at Finn questioningly. Funny. He's at least two whole heads taller than her.
"All good things, don't worry. I'm Rey." I extend my hand and try to look as friendly as possible.
She lifts up her hand to meet mine, and shakes it vigorously. A firm handshake for a small woman. But just as fast as this meeting begins, it ends with the General calling for us.
"Poe! Rey! Special mission!"
Poe bounces on the balls of his feet, ecstatic. Cute.
A/N
I'm rlly sorry about this glitch, but apparently it's happening to a lot of authors, so let's be patient so wattpad can fix it. if chapter nine was blank for you, Poe, Rey, Finn, and the rest of the Resistance found this pit big enough for a base. There are groups working to build it, and amongst the tech group is- ROSE!
