chapter five

POE'S POV

The familiar hisses of the ship sound out, which means we're landing. I was not prepared for that. I fall over onto Rey, and I grab her arm so I can stay up. She covers my hand with her own for support. Then she looks up at me. She's got great eyes. Caramel- colored, actually. With little specks of gold and green. I don't know when I decided to squeeze her arm a bit, but I did.
"Thanks," I say, out of breath. Thank god we had a rough landing to blame my shortness of breath on, but it's really just this woman in front of me. Wow.
"No problem," she says nonchalantly.
It dawns on us that were on land, so we start for the door.
"Hey Finn, you coming?" I ask, because he hasn't left his seat. I bet he wants to stay with Rose. After all, she's not conscious yet, and I wouldn't wanna leave her alone either.
"Uh," He clears his throat. "I gotta stay back here. Somebody's gotta watch over Rose."
I really feel crappy about Finn missing out on seeing the new base. But from I can tell, the entirety of the planet basically sucks. Seriously.
"Maybe we can get a nurse to watch her until we come back?" Rey offers hopefully.
Finn nods solemnly.
"I guess so," he stands up reluctantly and waves the nurse who was cleaning windows earlier.
"Ma'm, we have to help scope out the planet with the General. Could you take care of my- friend Rose for a little while?"
The Nurse nods understandingly, and motions for us to go. Finn tears his eyes away, and hurries out of the medbay.

       We nudge through the crowd; if you can even call it that. There's not many of us. The door hisses open, and you can tell people are holding their breath. The anticipation is electric, and this has gotta be one of the highlights of my career.

                  How anticlimactic.
