Dani's P.O.V.
I couldn't believe how pissed off dad was at Ruby. He was absolutely livid, and I felt super guilty. I was the one who knew something was going on. I was the one who told dad to go check on Ruby.
I knew she would be in lots of trouble, but I was so tired of my sister's bad decisions reflecting on me. It was incredible how many people would come up to me and tell me my sister owes them something. Don't get me wrong, my sister is a very sweet person, she just sucks at paying people back on time.
Another thing, Ruby is crazy about men. Older men, to be specific. I once thought my sister was a prostitute, but she just had so many sugar daddies who bought her everything she wanted. My mom quickly put a stop to that, but Ruby still found a way around mom's rules.
The next day after Ruby was caught with FP, I was sure I wasn't going to see her that day at all. Usually, she stays in her room sulking when she gets caught doing something she shouldn't be.
I was surprised to see my dad and Ruby laughing and joking at the breakfast table. Confused, I sat down with a piece of toast for breakfast. Ruby looked over at me and smiled. My father was also in a great mood.
'Dani, you remember FP Jones, right? You met him the other night,' Dad started, while Ruby looked ecstatic.
'Uhmm, sure?' I started eating.
'He's going to be joining us for dinner tonight. He's bringing his son, Jughead, who is your age.' Dad winked at that last comment.
What a bunch of freakish names...
I was indifferent to us inviting Ruby's older boyfriend to dinner, so I just shrugged. I couldn't care less about some freak named Jughead. I missed being in California, with my friends...
...I never wanted to move here, and mom suggested that I should so that it would help Ruby, but I knew the truth. Mom had found a new boyfriend, and he didn't like Ruby nor did he like me. It was frustrating enough having your sister as the town's whore, but to have your mother's boyfriend dislike you enough for her to kick you out, that's just pushing the line.
I decided to finish up breakfast and go for a cigarette. This whole situation was stressful enough, I didn't need to have some weird dinner party with the guy who wants to bang my sister.
After helping dad with the dishes, Ruby went to the mall. I stayed at home to just lounge about, seeing as I would have to be present for dinner. It was a long afternoon, and Ruby spent most of it locked in the bathroom to get ready.
Dad came into my room to have a chat, and I became uneasy with this situation even more.
'I know this is weird, but I don't want to push Ruby away. She needs support, and if she can manage to be with FP and have her life sorted out, then who am I to say no? You are allowed to feel angry,' dad sighed, 'I suppose you must be seeing as you just got thrown into this. I need you to understand that I never have to worry about you making bad decisions.'
He ruffled my hair, and he then went back downstairs to finish cooking supper. I could smell grease from hamburgers, and the crispy scent of golden fried fries. I guess dad picked up some Pops.
The doorbell rang, and I went downstairs to greet our guests with dad. Of course, Ruby was last to greet them, and she made a huge fuss about coming down the stairs. FP looked enamoured of her. I just rolled my eyes.
Jughead was intriguing, and definitely a lot cuter than I was expecting. At least this dinner wouldn't be so bad now. FP and Ruby could make googly eyes at each other all night, and I could just enjoy the eye candy that is Jughead Jones...
...My sister must be rubbing off on me.
