Tris's POV
I stare at the screen in shock. My dad was cheating on my mother with my least favourite teacher.
I steal the mouse from Four's hand and press on another email from her.
Andrew,
If you 'not loving me anymore', is because I didn't want to raise our child with you, I have changed. It's been over a decade, I will raise the child with you. I still love you and I am capable of loving our child again. You never told me what you called it. Please get back to me.
Sincerely, Jeanine
my father had a child with my her? Am I that child? Is that why she hates me? She didn't want to raise me so he broke up with her and that's why she hates me? Does my mother know about this? I fall onto the chair and slump down.
Four kneels down next to me on the chair, about to say something when the office door swings open. I see my father, fury in his eyes.
"Beatrice. You're grounded." He says, obviously trying to stay calm. It's not working very well.
"Am I Jeanine's daughter?" I ask, staring right into his eyes. For a split-second he looks shocked. Then he flicks back to anger. "Am I?" I ask, tears start pouring into my eyes.
Four's POV
All i can do is watch as Tris's father gets angrier and more tears come to Tris's eyes. It's like i'm not even here.
"You shouldn't be in here." He says, looking extremely disappointed. "Neither of you." He says, giving me a harsh glare. "Out." He says, look at Tris and hesitate for a second and then I start to walk towards the exit.
"No." Tris says, chasing after me and grabbing my wrist. "Am I Jeanine's daughter?" She says again. He sighs.
"We'll talk about this later." He says, trying to shoo us out of the office.
"Now!" Tris screams. Her father sighs again.
He says. "Tris, go to your room."
Tris stomps out of the room. I follow her as she exits the house.
She opens the passenger door to my car and sits inside.
"We can go do your mission, wherever it is." She says, looking down. How do I be supportive? I reach for her hand and squeeze it. she squeezes back.
I start the car and I start driving towards my house. We arrive at my house and I see my mother in the driveway. Will she ever give up?
I lead Tris into the house, walking past my mother, ignoring her. She looks extremely hurt. But after her leaving me with him for years, i don't know if I can ever forgive her.
I lead Tris up to my room and we sit down on the bed.
"Who was that?" Tris asks. I sigh.
"I don't really want to talk about it." I say, she nods in response.
"So, what's your mission?" She asks, looking up at me.
"Tris, I don't matter right now." I respond. "Are you okay after that whole thing?" I ask her. Her eyes start welling up with tears.
I reach my hand to her face to wipe the tears off.
Our faces start to slowly lean closer together. We're only a centimetre apart.
I hear noise in the driveway, so I pull away. Tris's cheeks go red. Great. I had to go and stuff that up for myself.
I walk over to the window and see that it's just my mother driving away. I walk back and sit next to Tris. I just had to go and make this awkward for us. I'm so frustrated with myself right now, I want to scream.
We sit there for a few minutes in silence until Tris finally speaks.
"Do you want to tell me your mission now?" She asks, she is looking down at the floor.
"Well, I'm running away from home." I say, she looks up at me shocked.
"How am I supposed to help you with that?" She asks, looking extremely confused.
"I need to get back at my father somehow before I go." I respond simply. I decide not to say the part about my stupid party plan. That was never going to work and I don't want to embarrass myself in front of her.
"But how do I help?" She asks still confused. I shrug.
"I need an idea of something to do to get back at him." Is all I say, then we go back into another awkward silence, this one lasting even longer. After a little while, Tris trys to break the awkward silence.
"Your room is very..." She says, trying to start an interesting conversation.
"Boring? Plain? Ugly? Grey?" I ask, she giggles.
"I was going to say interesting, but..." She starts saying, but then I give her a 'yeah right' look. She nods at me giggling again.
"Yeah, i was going to say plain." She says, We both laugh.
Tris and I talk for a while until she gets up.
"I have to go." She says, walking towards the door. "I'll think of some ideas for you and tell you tomorrow." She says, leaving my room.
As soon as I hear the front door slam shut, I sigh. I guess I'll talk to her tomorrow?
Tris's POV
I'm not going home yet, so i just walk. I don't know where to, but I walk. I eventually make it to the park that Four and talked at before. It is quiet and peaceful, other than a few little kids playing on the playground and their parents watching them.
I sit down on a park bench and look around. Not much is happening around here.
"Tris?" I hear a familiar voice from behind me. I turn around and see Eric.
Great. What does he want?
"Eric?" I say, responding to him.
"Can I talk to you," He says, glancing around the park. I nod. "Will you be my girlfriend, Tris?" He asks.
I hold my jaw from dropping.
