I opened the door, and hummed at Syral. "I think you're Psychic."
It blinked slowly. "That's an odd way of starting a conversation, though I think I like it more than 'small talk'. Interesting theory. Care to explain the Premise of your hypothesis?"
"You always manage to bring me something to do, just before I think of something you don't want me to, like with the pregnant Drake, and now, when I was thinking of leaving. So, I think you have some ability to see the future or read my thoughts." I explained, letting it in.
It sat on the chair I offered, and I set about pouring tea, while it thought about it's rebuttal. "Well. I can't say that that doesn't sound suspiciously like ESP... but I confess, no, Telepathy is not one of my many talents, and I cannot see the future. The past is simple, one must only look into ones mind, or simply visit the past."
"So you're denying having any sort of... mind power that lets you know when I'm going to do something?"
"Yes." It sipped the tea, and made a face, adding a drop of honey.
"Well damn... Fine. What was it you were here for, then? Just my company?" I sipped my own, and added sugar.
"No... though your company is preferable to my own, I find Glass to be an even better companion, when I feel like 'hanging out'. It is rather good at chess." Syral smiled.
"I see... then you need something."
"Indeed. Well, not me, but the Mage Council would like you to restart your family's breeding program... but in the Divided States. The Canadian Golden Dragons are dying out." It hummed at its empty tea cup, and I poured more, thinking.
"Well, the Academy Portal could easily take me there, daily, yes? Or I could breed them here, and let them loose there." I hummed.
"Yes, you could, and that was my vote, as well. You are, after all, still a student. That they chose you, over all the other breeders on the planet, is likely because of your recent acquisition of a Pure Gold. They likely think you will breed Bergen with some of their Gold's, and strengthen the bloodlines." Syral added another drop of honey to its tea, before tasting it this time, and stirred while I thought.
"I see. I can deal with selfish people. What are they thinking of paying me?" I asked simply.
Syral stilled.
"Ahhh, the Academy wants to receive my pay, Hmm? No deal. If I'm the Breeder, I'll receive all the money, or no deal. If you say I'm not a Slave, then my Job means my Money. The Academy will likely receive a jolt of Tourism Money from people coming to see the dragons, so they can't complain that they're being jilted." I said logically.
It laughed softly. "True, but they're greedy fools. I'll deliver to them your counter-proposal."
"No. I'll do it. Bring me to them. If I'm doing business, I want it to be face to face. The Canadians, as well, and the eldest pair of their Breeding Golds." I shook my head.
"Ah... I will try." Syral sighed, and finished it's tea, setting the porcelain I'd bought recently down, and left with a final comment. "I quite like your company, Idunacantus. Thank you for the amusement, and the tea. I will see you soon, I hope."
I smirked at Bergen, who was rolling in the grass, laughing at something one of his brothers had said. "Looks like you might be getting a lot of mates in a few years, Bergen!"
He perked up. "Really?"
"Could be." I nodded.
He shivered, turning pink, and hid in a tree suddenly, ignoring how he bent the trunk.
