— Idun —

My jaw cracked against solid air resistance, nearly dislocating, as I found myself back in Syral's Office. I groaned in pain, carefully putting it back in place, and Syral hummed. "I take it you were unsuccessful?"

"No, actually. The Dragon sent me back as a repayment of my protecting her children from an evil bitch who wanted nothing more than to turn them into war machines, and had no issue resorting to blatant Lies to achieve this." I said simply.

It rubbed its temples slowly. "I sent you there to help Lady Yuu-Li... not the Dragon."

"Too bad, the Dragon was the one in need of assistance." I shrugged.

It snorted, and chuckled. "I don't know why I would have expected anything different... well, I suppose you succeeded in something, so our deal is done. The mithril will be delivered by tonight."

"Can I still participate in the Ranking Exam?" I asked.

"Do as you please, child, I'm sure you planned to anyway." Syral groaned, leaning back in the large throne-like desk chair.

"Perfect, Thanks!" I grinned and jogged out.

I was a minute late to the Etheric Equations Exam, but seeing as I'd been excused entirely, I was let off with a warning, and I sat down to begin the test with everyone else.

"Alright, second Equation. Create something that could put out Dragon-Fire." The professor sat at his desk, and a large screen popped up, indicating the positions of every student, and their in-progress spells.

I used the algorithm that would determine what the chemical components of the fire were, and then attached that to a reverse-engineering sequence, that would create the opposing chemicals, and neutralize it at the source, then raised my hand.

"Interesting, Idun. Now dismantle it carefully." He nodded.

"And that's the last Equation, it seems... alright, and your results are in! Here's the list of Exemptions... McGregor, Dorset, And Siam. Everyone else scored below the perfect marks. The failures are minimal, thankfully. Dunival, Frenchie, Respirin, you all failed, and are being kicked back to the Remedial Course. Get a perfect on their exams, and you can come back." The Professor was merciless, explaining the scores and repercussions to the students without flinching.

I raised my hand. "May I know my personal Score?"

"Hmm? Sure, Idun... r,r,r... ah! You received a 70, C-, because you skipped some steps, and in almost every Equation. Had you not, your end results, which I was very impressed by, would have warranted you an easy Exemption." He sighed.

"So... I got a C, because I didn't do it the way you wanted me to, even though you said to be creative?" I frowned.

"Yes." He stonewalled my indignation, expressionless.

"And now you're lying, aren't you? You're a terrible liar. Syral put you up to this, didn't it?!" I growled, standing up.

He sat down, and looked through his papers. "No idea what you're talking about."

"You seriously suck at lying." I snapped, and stomped out, headed for Syral's Office.

It appeared from that little portal it carried around, and blinked at me, curious. "You look angry? Why?"

"You told the Professor to give me a C?!?" I snapped.

"Oooh, that. No, I told the professor to fail you, because you would be missing the exam entirely... I'll talk to It about it." Syral shrugged carelessly.
