Chapter 7

*2 years later*

"UGH! What is she wearing? Her outfit totally put me off my food!" Jana said pushing her food away. Her voice was a little too loud and it caught the attention of the girl. We all turned in the direction of the girl.

"Yuck," Abby said mimicking Jana, but I couldn't help notice the strain in her voice.

"Ewwww," Emily said in disgust. Her face was scrunched up in a way that made her look not so attractive.

"Save me the torture," Rena said, with boredom in her voice and not even bothering to look up. I knew she didn't mean it. She didn't want to be here. She was here for my sake.

"I think she looks nice," I said and smiled in the girls direction, knowing she heard me. She gave me a weak smile back.

"Ugh, whatever," Jana said while scraping her chair back. "I'm going to get more salad", she stated. She looked at us expectantly, waiting for someone to offer to get it.

No one said anything. She rolled her eyes.

"Rena, get me more salad," she commanded.

Rena gave her a cold stare before replying. "You got legs. Use them."

Rena was possibly the only one who could get away talking like that to Jana. No doubt Jana was scared of her. Rena takes crap from no one.

Jana didn't say anything. Instead she just rolled her eyes.

"Abby," she said, indicating she must get the salad for her. Abby pursed her lips together, as if she was going to hesitate, but then got up and walked to the food line.

Abby was a pushover. Beautiful, but a pushover. And a faithful minion of Jana.

And Emily was just annoying. She was Jana's other faithful minion. She and Abby were always in competition to be Jana's best friend, but lately it seemed that Abby was giving up.

And I wouldn't be surprised if she did. Jana was horrible to them and every one else. But Emily doesn't see it. At first Abby was just like Emily, but lately I've noticed her slight movements that show her annoyance with Jana. Sometimes she rolls her eyes, sometimes her nostrils flair, and other times I see her breathing deeply and counting softly.

We all sat in silence while we waited for Abby to come back. A few minutes she came back and the light chatter started. Rena and I stayed out of the conversation.

Eventually Jana finished her salad. "We got 5 minutes until our next lesson. Come girls, let's go freshen up," she scraped her chair back and walked away, with the two girls following her.

As soon as they were gone Rena's face got brighter.

"Why the hell are we even friends with them? Jana hates us." The distaste was clear in her voice.

"Because I am going to do good in this world. And if it means enduring them, then so be it. Besides, Jana can't do anything about us. She knows I can easily be the most popular in school."

"I don't know why you just didn't take her down and squash her like the damn little bug she is."

"You know why. I don't trust myself with that kind of status," I said thinking about what happened with Mark. Even though its been 2 years, there's not a day I regret what happened.

Ever since I came here, I was a part of the popular kids. Jana was your typical Queen Bee. She was mean, vain, shallow and a bully.

She was me.

She is what I used to be.
