It all started when both the detectives, one representing Osaka and the other representing Tokyo, had multiple cases together. At first it was fun and games, seeing who would solve the case much faster, however, both saw that working together lead to solving the case at a faster rate.
The Osaka detective, Hattori Heiji, decided to move to Tokyo, so both would be able to work in the same detective agency and be able to spend much more time together, other than during their job.
"Hattori!" The detective snapped out of his train of thought. The Tokyo detective, Kudo Shinichi, waved a hand in front of the other. "You listening?" Nodding, he glanced over at the window then back at his partner.
"Yeah?" Sounding hesitant, he smiled his usual smile and scratched the back of his head. Seeing the small frown on the other detective, he somehow deducted that what the other had said was somewhat important to the other. "Kudo?" As he waved at the other as the other did to him, Shinichi silently sighed.
"You really are hopeless aren't you?" Hattori couldn't help but tilt his head to the side, still clueless as to what the other detective was asking of him.
"What? Did I do something wrong?" Shinichi somewhat glared at him. A strong breeze blew over from the window of his home. He shook his head in disappointment.
"No, it's fine," the boy groaned as he couldn't help but wonder what Kazuha saw in him. He grinned before he thought back and remembered.
"Hey, Kudo," he called out to get his attention.
"Huh?"
"Wanna go outside? We've been here for a couple days in this stuffy house of yours." Shinichi held back the urge to scowl.
"If you wanna get out then get out," he glared. "No one's forcing you to stay here." He went back to reading his novel as Hattori simply stared.
"But, I mean... Just by myself?" Without looking up from the book, he shifted from sitting down to lying down.
"Well, we got class in a few hours. I don't want to be late. Plus, I thought we were meeting up with Hakuba and his friend for lunch." The Osaka detective groaned, growing impatient.
"Yeah but it's so far away." He slumped over the chair as he looked up and stared at the wall across from him. He then looked down at Shinichi. "That novel more interesting than me? I thought I was a fun roommate. Come on. Kudo~." The boy locked eyes with the other as he turned the page.
"What, I thought you were gonna leave this stuffy house of mines."
"Ah..." Hattori watched as Kudo went back to the novel, clearly engrossed in it. He sighed heavily. "So mean..."
~~~
"Okay, well that's the end of this lesson. Class dismissed I guess." The two detectives stared blankly and chuckled wryly as they saw the awkward professor clean up their desk, since they hadn't cleaned it in a while.
"So, where are we meeting them?" Kudo grabbed his belongings and looked up to think.
"Uh, that cafe we went to last time. You know, with the really good iced coffee."
"Oh! So we're meeting there?" The boy nodded as the two of them headed out.
~~~
"Right here!" Kudo waved to the two who were in the distance.
"Kudo! Hattori is here as well." The two smiled as they greeted each other. The friend stepped up and grinned.
"Nice to meet you, my name is Kuroba Kaito." Kudo chuckled.
"I know you. You were Hakuba's classmate right? The one he suspected was Kaito Kid." The boy looked over at the blond frantically speaking.
"You told him that!? Oh now he's gonna start being suspicious of me..." They all laughed it off while Kuroba dejectedly sat down.
"Oh, so you're all detectives huh? I guess I'm just the lonely magician then." The boy sipped his iced coffee while Hakuba ate a bite from the pastry he got. Kudo and Hattori glanced over at each other, trying to find a way to respond to him.
"Um, yeah. What kind of tricks do you do?" Shinichi asked, curious.
"Well, you know. Card tricks, doves, it's all pretty much the same, hey," he quickly answered the question and grabbed the boy's attention. "I gotta say, your eyes are absolutely stunning." He just stared at the magician, attempting to process all of the information.
"I'm sorry, what?" Kuroba backed up.
"You know like sapphires," he paused after he saw the confused look on the other's face. He put his hands up defensively. "Oh, never mind, forget what I said," he laughed it off as he continued to sip his drink. Hattori stared at the other, wondering if it was what he thought it was. He put an arm around Shinichi.
"Well! Kudo here is pretty interesting. A rival of mine I like to say." Hakuba smiled gently, remembering the newspapers retelling each crime and how they solved them.
"Quite amazing the two of you. Although I feel a bit left out." Hakuba took another bite.
"Oh, don't be like that! It'll be okay," Hattori tried consoling him while he laughed. Shinichi would have joined, but he received a phone call.
"Hello? Inspector Megure? A case? Now? Okay, we'll be there in a bit." He put his phone away. "Oh sorry guys, guess this lunch will be cut short. Come on Hattori, let's go." Both of them got up and ran away. Hakuba quietly sighed.
"Oho, sad you couldn't join their detective fun?" Kuroba said smugly.
"No, just worried they won't get to class on time. They're already behind on their work since the last few days were riddled with cases. Who know if they'll make it in time?" Hakuba shrugged as he drank his coffee. "Oh, they were right, this is good."
Kuroba watched as the two turned a corner in the distance.
"Huh, I wonder what he'll do?"
