Zoey P.O.V.
"So, you girls going to explain what the fuck just happened?" Nilesy huffed, Zoey looked over to him and bit her lip. She exchanged glances with Lomadia, Keayi, and Minty. They all kept quiet, it was best not to answer Nilesy just yet, because their plan had failed. More like I failed, Zoey puffed out her cheeks in thought.
"You're not going to answer?" Xephos cocked an eyebrow from the rock he was leaning against. "Pretty much." Lomadia smiled, as she grabbed the water bottle from his hands and took a sip.
"I never thought I'd have to say this, but if you wont tell us, how do we know we can trust you?" Martyn asked, his shoulders were tense as he stood, only small pants escaping his lips from surprise. Keayi twirled a long piece of her pink hair, staring at the ground. "We didn't betray you," Minty began, her lips were formed into a tight line. "Then what did you do, Minty?" Sjin glared at her, rubbing his neck where the sword had been.
Zoey's eyes widened, forgetting about her exhausted state, she jumped up. "It was my fault, I asked them to do it. I was going to try," She choked on her words slightly, while the group started at her with troubled glances. "I was going to try to convince him, Ender, maybe see if I could trigger something. Like a memory."
"Did it work?" Lalna asked, his voice was laced with disappointment. "No, but-" Zoey began again, somehow she'd found her self in a staring contest with Lalna. "No, exactly. You shouldn't have tried, you need to let us handle this, Zoey. Rythian's never coming back, you need to accept that." His voice sounded strained, and tired.
Zoey couldn't see anymore, she knew what he was saying was true, he wasn't going to come back. That didn't stop the tears from spilling, as they rolled down her face. Lalna stood up with surprise and reached out to comfort, a growl sounded and he flinched away. Zoey turned on her heels and ran, speeding past Teep, who guarded the passage she'd scurried through with threatening snarls.
Zoey didn't stop until she felt her exhaustion kick in again. She knew it was a bad idea to get so far away from the group, anything could be out in this forest, but strangely she didn't care. She wiped her eyes as the streaks of orange pasted through the gaps in the leaves, morning was almost here. She sighed, even though she knew Lalna was right, she should just accept the fact that he was never coming back. She didn't want too.
The red-head looked around her, not far away was a red mushroom, it was very tiny. "Hello there." She waved at the little mushroom, she smiled as it said hello back and asked her what was wrong. "One of my very good friends doesn't remember me, and now he's far away from home. I really want him to come back." She tried saying it in a joyful tone, hoping not to scare the little one. She gasped as she heard what it said next, it said something about wishes. It would grant her a wish, Zoey tapped her chin.
"Are you sure? There's no catch?" She joked, smiling teasingly at the mushroom as she scooted closer to it so she could scoop it up in her hands. Her smile darkened, this mushroom was being serious, and the price might be to much. She bit her lip, "Okay, I'll take it. I wish that my-my friend will come back to me, please." She whispered, the mushroom agreed. Zoey put the little thing down, and said her good-byes, filled with a new sense of peace, as she returned the way she had come.
It wasn't hard for her to find her way back to the group, considering her internal compass. When she entered the clearing again, everyone visibly sighed with relief. Lomadia even came over and hugged her. "What's wrong?" Zoey asked confused, Lomadia stared at her blankly. "What do you mean 'what's wrong', you ran off into the forest. You could have been hurt."
Zoey mouth formed in an 'o' shape. Zoey scanned the crowd of worried faces, all expect for Lalna were there. "Zoey," Xephos said, dragging her attention towards himself, "can you tell me again why you made this plan. Considering you had said it was your idea." He justified, his voice was calming.
It took wheel power not to panic, and run away again. She sat down on the floor, "Rythian and I were really close," She began, except this time there were no interruptions. "So, I kind of freaked out when he was just gone, like that." She snapped her fingers together. "And then you allowed everyone to fight him, and I just couldn't let that happen. So when all of us were talking, we devised a plan, if Ry-Ender appeared again we would stop you all from attacking. Then I would do my very best to try and get his memory to come back. Obviously it didn't work." Zoey huffed, she was looking at the ground now, braiding a few grass strands together.
Zoey pulled a hand through her hair, it was something she'd seen Rythian do various times, especially when stressed. Zoey had never really been stressed before, except for that one time in prison. She hated stress.
"Welp," Xephos slapped both of his hands onto his kneecaps, "I forgive you. Your reasons were just, and I shouldn't have given the command to kill him. I apologize to you, Zoey, for not taking in account your feelings." Zoey blinked up at him, "Apology accepted." She stuttered.
"We better get back on the road, it's day now." Honeydew said from beside Xephos as he looked at the sky. Xephos nodded and got up. Zoey watched as the men started packing up, they didn't seem to care what they had done.
