"So, what do you want to talk about?" I ask. Ellen, Alice, and I are on guard duty for one of the beach facing gates. We have been talking about different things, mainly what the plan may be in the morning, but that gets boring pretty quick. We are the third to last shift of guards, which is sorta.... Well, with everything going on, I wasn't going to get a good night sleep anyway, and it's not like I'm going to be able to get back to bed after the shift.
"Hey, does anyone else see that?" Alice asks ponting. We peek through different cracks, and that's when I see the figures coming towards us on the beach.
Without speaking, we all put on quivers and draw arrows as the figures come closer. I double check that the gate is secure then join the other two in the shadows watching the figures.
"This doesn't look—" a voice starts.
"—like a gate," another voice finishes.
The twins?
"It is," another voice says. Rachel! I go to open the gate, to do what, I have no idea, but Sophie catches my arm pulling me back.
"You said—"
"—the girls—"
"—would protect us."
"They will as soon as they figure out we're out here, or decide to trust us."
"What do—"
"I betrayed them, they have no reason to trust me. You two are boys, they don't trust you, even if your Ralph's friends."
"Bu—"
"They'll let us in. I want to speak to Cassie," she says in a loud voice. "I know someone is there, let us in."
"Ellen?" Alice asks in a whisper. Ellen nodes and dashes into the nearest hut. We put away our bows and grab spears as Jenna comes back with more girls who all have spears, one of which is Cassie, little miss overachiever. Still, she isn't a bad leader. I can't believe that I'm on her side now.
"Let them in, and surround them, we don't want any surprises," Cassie says.

The gate opens revealing more than just the normal amount of girls for the unofficial night watch at the gate. Figures, it's probably official now and they probably got more girls when they saw us coming. They all have weapons, but, it is impossible to tell who they all are. There are too many faces swimming in the dark to focus on identifying one.
The girls surround us, spears pointed before moving us into the camp. The gate shuts behind us and those blocking our view move aside as a lone girl walks closer.
"You said you wanted to talk to me, traitor," Cassie says, venom laced in her voice. Sam and Eric start shivering in fear beside me. It's all I can do to not do the same.
