Biology dragged on. when the lunch bell rang I was the first one out of there. On my way to the lunch hall I saw someone standing by the door, his hair covering his face and his foot propping him up on the wall. The light from the doors at the end of the hallway made him look like a perfect silhouette."Hey." I said as soon as I was close enough. He looked up, his expression blank until he realised who it was.
"Hi."
"Let me just grab lunch - I'll meet you outside." I said, laying my hand on his shoulder lightly before disappearing into the busy hall. The people in front of me abruptly stopped their conversation to look back in disgust at me. I looked on, pretending not to hear them when they declared loudly that suddenly they "Weren't hungry anymore". As I moved up in line a boy pulled his friend out of my way and watched with hateful eyes as I glided by. I tried to take no notice. But it still got to me. I kept walking by as the students cleared the way until I was facing the back of a very tall, blonde haired boy wearing a beige jumper. His black jacket was in his hand and a tendril of smoke floated behind him.
I watched as he walked past the trays and grabbed himself a ruby red apple and a sandwich. He then proceeded to take a handful of individually wrapped strawberry gummys.
"You gunna save some for the rest of us?" I said, taking an orange juice and plastic container full of tomato covered pasta. He turned slowly and smiled, the cigarette hanging in his mouth almost falling when he smiled.
"None of these fuckers deserve any." He said, dumping some in my hand and taking more. I laughed and handed the cafeteria lady a folded ten before walking with Roman outside.
The sun had moved in front of the school now, warming everything it touched instantly. Stepping into it I squinted, the pleasant heat soothed away the sudden chill in the air. Peter was sitting on the pale stone wall, his legs crossed in front of him. The sunlight, that was hitting half his face, created a golden brown outline of him. I watched as the sun light seemed to dance in between baby curls by his forehead. I tilted my head to the side as I suddenly realised I wanted to comb it away from his face. He looked busy, looking down and fiddling with something too small for me to see, his hair falling around his face in thick strands. As I watched he rolled up his sleeves and I saw he was sitting on his jacket. With a twinge I realised he was handsome, the soft kind that once you saw, you couldn't unsee.
It was in his delicate movements, dress sense and baby face that was covered by overgrown stubble. He was beautiful."You're not hungry?" I called as we got closer. He looked up, the light moving to bounce off his head like a frizzy halo. When he saw Roman he paused, the corners of his mouth freezing slightly.
"Not really." I sighed, sitting next to him and opening my orange juice.
"Mind if I join you?" Roman asked, his eyes on peter though he was turned towards me. I looked between them carefully. They both seemed tense, like they were having a silent argument between them. Peter was the first to look away, gesturing to the vas empty space around us.
"It's a free country dude." He said casually, before continuing to fiddle with a piece of cigarette paper, I realised. As Roman sat next to me I shuffled back so that we were in a line and dug into my lunch.
"You ran out of tobacco? I can give you some." Roman said, having noticed the paper like I had. Peter shook his head.
"Nah, I changed my mind." He said, flicking the little ball away.
"What did you just have?" Peter asked, his blue eyes on me.
"Biology. We were directing frogs and studying their anatomy which was cool but after a while you're just poking a dead frog. You?"
