It was a half hour drive from Romans house to a brightly labelled psychic store. Walking up a narrow flight upstairs I was startled when the door flew open to expose a slim girl version of Peter. Her long brown hair wound in loose ringlets down her back. The blue and pale yellow dress she wore covered almost nothing - it was merely designed of patches of cloth held together by strings of tiny gold coils.
"Come in! Come in!" She squealed, her voice as high as the sound of the coins clanging together around her waist. Peter stepped aside to introduce us.
"Miya this is-"
"- I'm Destiny, you beautiful friend of gypsy!" She said, her eyes shining brightly as she looked me up and down. When she out stretched her hands I smiled and hugged her.
"It's nice to meet you." I mumbled as she pulled away and went to greet Roman.
"So, why are you here? What's up?" She said, clapping her hands together loudly. Briefly turning to Peter for reassurance I began.
"I have visions. Sleeping and when I'm not. I um, I was just wondering if there was any way you could make them easier or not as frequent. I can usually control them well enough to have a life but now... I'm having them quite frequently. Anything can set me off." I finished with a frown. She nodded, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I see... and how do you feel when you're having one?" She asked, eying Roman who was behind me.
"Everything goes fuzzy and weird, there's this pressure in my chest and my head, then I have a vision. When I come back I'm drained and I can't see for a few hours."
"That's because you weren't finished. The vision I mean-" she said, in an informative way and walked into the kitchen. "Does it hurt?" She called over her shoulder. I peeked through the wall of beads curiously.
"Sometimes, Yeah." I mumbled, only to have her burst through them and grab my hand.
"You're stopping yourself from having the full vision. I think you're only getting parts." She said, dragging me to the bathroom, a jar in her other hand. When I was stood in front of the bath I turned to her, confused.
"And they're not in order... What's happening?" She smiled, placing the plug in the hole and turning the water on. Turning to me she opened the jar she had been holding and raised it to my chin.
"Spit." She commanded. I cringed away as the smell of whatever was in the jar hit me.
"What why?" She sighed impatiently, walking up to me and placing her lips over mine. Holding my head steady she pushed her tongue inside my mouth and sucked. When she released me I was left breathless, my lips tingling. She then spat into it and moved around the room and commanded Peter and Roman to spit into it as well. As I watched she secured it then began to shake it. I grimaced.
"We are dealing with weird mystical forces that I myself don't fully understand but, I do know more than you so I need you to just cooperate with me - okay?" I found myself nodding, still stunned.
"You're a really good kisser." I heard myself say before I could stop myself. She smiled and poured the contents into the filling bath. I caught a glimpse of Roman, who was standing just outside the door, and combed my hair behind my ear as he rolled his eyes.
"Honey get the ice cubes from the freezer." She called to Peter as she knelt in front of the bath and swirled her hand in a figure of eight.
"I know I'm not allowed to ask, but why?" I asked slowly. She smiled slightly, and I began to see the subtle differences between her and her cousin. Where he smiled with his eyes, she smiled with her cheeks.
"There is a state that some are able to get to easier than others. It's a kind of limbo - you go into it when you have a vision, others only can when they're about to fall asleep but it's only for a second and it could take you hours to fall asleep, so - we're going to get you there." I nodded slowly, though I was still confused. Roman stepped into the room.
"Is it just me or did she not explain what the ice cubes were for?" I just shrugged. Destiny sighed heavily, almost as if she were annoyed.
"I thought you did biology?" She said to me.
"Uhhh-" I frowned. One, that didn't mean I was good at it and two how did she know that?
"- he talks about you a lot. Anyway, what do you have to do before you cook a lobster?"
"Go fishing?" Roman guessed as Peter came back with four trays of ice cubes, his coat gone and his sleeves rolled up.
"You put it in the freezer jackasses. It puts them into hibernation so that they won't feel it when you boil them alive. Now, take your clothes off." Somehow Peter dropped the trays into the bath.
"What?" Him, Roman and I said at the same time. My cheeks warmed. Destiny looked less than impressed.
"Now is not the time for your raging, insecure teenage hormones. Clothes, off now!" She snapped, emptying the ice cubes into the water. I swallowed, my pride mostly, and thanked whatever God there was that I had shaved on Thursday. Peter looked a bit lost as he slowly backed away from me to stand next to Roman.
"Oh it's totally cool." I said, my voice cracking and my face growing warmer. "You showed me yours..." I stopped mumbling when I saw that Romans eyes were glinting with a strange light I had never seen before as I undid the buttons on my trench coat. When it fell to the floor I saw his jaw muscles flex and spasm under his skin. Taking a steadying breath I kicked off my shoes while I unzipped my skirt. Catching eye contact with Peter I watched his eyes as I dropped my skirt to the floor. I couldn't believe I was doing this.
I was just undressing, so why did it seem like I was doing it for them? Peter had done it with no problem. Then again, Peter was used to it. Why was I staring directly at them when they were going to see everything I had? My eyebrow arching I slipped off my underwear and felt a shiver run through me. Grabbing the hem of my jumper I found myself pulling it further down to cover my modesty.
"Do you mind?" I asked, my eyes flickering between them both. Roman stripped off his coat.
"Actually no, go ahead. I'm a feminist. Men and women both have nipples. They also both have breasts, the only difference is that woman have mammary glands. I'm all for women going topless." I rolled my eyes before turning my back on them and lifting off my jumper. Letting it fall to the ground I found myself holding my boobs and cupping my crotch even though they couldn't see me.
"Okay." Destiny said, getting up and taking one of my hands. "Get in." Dipping my toes in i made a breathless noise but kept going until my whole foot had been submerged. It was freezing. Way colder than a bath full of ice cold water and a couple cubes of ice should be. When my foot touched the bottom and it squished I remembered that we had all spat in the jar and had to stop myself from gagging. With two feet now in I felt my skin irrupting into goosebumps and my nipples hardening painfully as I sat down and let the water engulf me in an icy embrace.
"What next?" I asked, teeth chattering.
"Roman, Peter come help me." She said, holding my arms firmly to my waist. Every nerve in my body felt electric and overly stimulated, causing my breathing to hitch.
"We're going to hold you down in the water - Peter grab her legs - and fully submerge you under. But you're going to be fine. As long as we're touching you, you'll be able to breathe. When you go under, do not be afraid. Just let it take you." She said calmly as Peter lightly wrapped his hands around my feet. I looked at him, my brow furrowing. He just patterned my feet reassuringly.
"We got you Mi. You'll be fine."
"Roman, get her shoulders." Destiny whispered. As soon as his skin connected with mine I felt the current in the water change from jittery to swirly. It wound around my body from Peter at my feet up to my chest, where Roman held me. I closed my eyes as I began to feel the water trickle up my scalp and into my head somehow. The water ebbed and flowed there for a moment before it began to turn to spikes. I felt my body jolt involuntarily, and the waters hold on me tighten. My chest beginning to heave I felt myself being pushed under water.
