"You've been quite this whole time." I jumped and turned to the guy's voice beside me. Eli was standing there with drinks in both hands. He handed one to me while watching me. Knowing its rude to refuse a drink I took it from him and took a sip.

"I'm not used to large crowds. Especially if I don't know anyone." I explained. He nodded and remained quite for a couple of minutes. I was in the middle of drinking when he spoke.

"What have you been looking for?" At his question I choked on my drink, "You've been paying attention to the darker parts of the room. Did you think you were the only one who examines large crowds like this?"

"It's nothing." I choked out before calming down, "I wasn't looking for anything."

"Really? It didn't look that way to me." He replied.

"Why were you watching me then?" I demanded smirking when I saw his face turn red from the corner of my eyes. Looks like I got the topic off me.

"I wasn't staring. It's just that you seemed uncomfortable." He stated still blushing.

"It's okay, I was just teasing you."

He smiled before taking my empty glass.

"Do you want another drink?" He offered.

"Yes please." I said while faking a smile I knew was convincing. When he hurried off I felt a chill run down my spine. This time though a gloved hand covered my mouth and an arm wrapped around me pinning my arms down.

"Knock her out." I male voice said hissed as I began to struggle.

"Hold her still and I will!" A lady snapped. Keeping calm I slammed my heel into the man's toe. Making him hiss in pain and let me go, I hurried into the crowd.

Slowing down many people greeted me which I returned as politely as I could. When I glanced back at the corner where I was attacked, there was no one there.

"Are you sure everything is okay?" Eli asked appearing in front of me, making me jump a little.

"Yes, everything is okay." I assured him with a lying smile.

He hesitated before shrugging his shoulders and handing me a glass. From the way he was watching me I could tell he had a question. He doesn't believe me. Thankfully, though Evelyn returned.

"That was tiring," She sighed, but smiled, "Now, should I find you someone to dance with?"

"No, I'm not one for dancing." I laughed, "I prefer to be out of sight."

"You to seem to have known each other for a long time. Were you childhood friends?" Eli guessed.

"Oh, no. We only met this evening." Evelyn explained.

"No on could have guessed that." He laughed.

It was then I noticed something odd. The room seemed to be getting darker. There were some lanterns that were going out. I looked over at Evelyn to see that she was looking around to. Her neutral expression turned happy as she looked back to me and Eli.

"If you excuse us, I need to talk to Lady Maya, alone." she explained

"Of course." Before he could say anything else, she started to drag me away.

"You noticed the lights, right?" She questioned stopping us right outside of the large crowd.

"Yes, and I have an idea of what's going on." I couldn't explain though, because all the lights suddenly went out.

People began to scream and they started to run to the main doors. There's no way we can get out through there. Remembering the side doors, I grabbed her arm and started running towards them.
