Even when we were finished eating, Ida, Hector, and Ivan wouldn't leave us alone.

"Maya, we need to get going." Eli hissed so low I'm sure only I heard him. I glanced over at Evelyn to see that she wasn't going to do anything about our situation anytime soon. Clearing my throat, I stood, gaining their attention.

"Please excuse us, but we were given orders by our superiors to meet them as soon as we were done eating," I explained with the best smile I could come up with, "It would be bad to disobey the first order they gave us."

"Of course," Ida gasped with wide, shocked eyes, "We should have known. So sorry. Let's all go out sometime when we're free."

"Sounds fun. We'll take your offer into consideration. Have a good night." With those words, I motioned for Evelyn and Eli to follow me.

"I feel better now." Evelyn cheered twisting her upper body around as if testing it to see if she was really healed.

"Yeah, it's hard to tell that we were injured only a couple hours ago." Eli agreed as we headed outside.

Dad had always told me that you have to be a special person for the castle wizards to heal you. I had never been healed by a wizard before, so I was surprised at how quickly we were healed.

"Um...excuse me." Hearing a small voice, I turned around to see a girl standing behind us. She couldn't have been much older than 13, but she was wearing a castle maid uniform.

"Lord Caleb, Lady Zoe, and Lord Robert sent me to get you." she explained shyly.

I smiled before chuckling, "Okay, please lead the way."

She looked up at me in shock before walking ahead of us. Seems like we were going the right way anyways. We had only taken a couple steps when we heard a girl growl behind us.

"Hold it. You're not going anywhere without me." Luna glared at us as if we killed her favorite pet.

"Do you need something?" Eli asked.

"Don't speak so formally to me. I'm going to marry the prince and as of now, I'm the leader of the new assassins." She smirked before moving to stand in front of us to lead the way, "Keep walking, kid."

The maid looked at me as if asking if this was okay. When I nodded she continued to walk.

"You're a lot kinder than you look." Evelyn chuckled.

"only when I feel like it." I assured her with a smile.

"Lady Maya, Lady Evelyn," Eli started until Evelyn stopped him.

"Okay, I think we're past formalities." She decided.

"I have to agree," I nodded, "We all nearly died and would have if it wasn't for each other. Besides, I have a feeling that in our line of work, we only need to be formal and polite when we need to be."

"Okay then girls, why are we letting this girl come in and take over, when she didn't take the test?" He hissed.

"She's coming in like and arrogant brat, I say she gets whatever's coming to her." I answered shrugging my shoulders. If we had to fight those monsters for a test then I imagine, we'll be facing creatures like that more times than we would like.

"Are you all done?" Luna snapped ahead of us. She stood in front of a building with the maid standing next to the door.

"Head on in." I yelled as we approached the building. She stuck her nose in the air and walked in. Eli and Evelyn followed.

"Thank you for leading us here." I thanked the maid, "Hurry on back to the castle now."

She nodded and ran off while I walked in and shut the door.

"Who would care to explain why we have an extra person here?" The man with black hair, Caleb, demanded. Luna flipped her black hair over her shoulder before crossing her arms.

"I've decided that I'm going to be the leader of the assassins. Since I'm going to marry the prince I can decide that." Luna snapped. Caleb examined her for a minute before sighing.

"Okay then. As the prince's fiancé what should we do?" He asked. I put a hand over my mouth to keep my smile from showing. Clearly, he's just as tired of her as we are.

"We go to bed, obviously. It's been a long day of training. Now good night." She headed into an empty room across from her and shut the door. As soon as she did though, Robert locked the door with a goofy grin.

"You kids don't have to listen to her. She's not really going to marry the prince." Zoe explained before pointing to the couch, "Take a seat."

We sat down, sinking into the cushions a little. I don't think I've even been this thankful to sit.

"Now, I'm sure you three have a lot of questions," Caleb started, "All of them will be answered, but first I have a question. Who is the leader out of you three?"

"We don't have a leader." Eli answered.

"Which one of you did the most work in the tunnels?" Zoe corrected.

"We all did our share. Besides, we were all to focused on staying alive to care about who did the most amount of work." Evelyn sighed.

"It's okay. We'll find out tomorrow during your training." promised Robert.

"What kind of training?" I asked now suspicious of them, "Our entrance exam got someone killed. What are we killing?" I thought for a moment before something popped into my mind, "Were the secret escorts the ones who attacked us at the party?"

A very faint smile appeared on Caleb's face, shocking me. The kings own secret escorts attacked. How are they still alive then? They would have been killed for treason.

"Our job as assassins is to protect the royal family. We are the last defense. Should we fail, a wizard is supposed to teleport the prince to a safe area. That much is true." Caleb confirmed, "The other part of our job is to kill misbehaving magical creatures."

"Creatures such as gremlins, minotaur, the creatures you fought in the tunnels," explained Zoe, "There are more, but those will be in the book we give you."

"You mean creatures from the Great War?" Evelyn gasped.

I couldn't believe it either. The Great War was over 500 years ago. Back then, a portal opened and these monsters came out. That was how the previous world ended. After the war lasted 150 years, there was finally a peace treaty. The creatures would stay on their side of the world and leave us alone if we stop using electricity and stop doing experiments on prisoners of war we agreed. Now we rarely see them. They've almost faded back into myths and legends.

"Yes," Robert answered, "There are some savage creatures that come onto our lands and it's our job to kill them."

"I see." I yawed. It's starting to get harder to keep my eyes open.

"You all need rest. We'll let the prince know that he can meet you tomorrow after training," Caleb sighed as they headed out, "We'll come get you tomorrow."

They barely had the door shut before I fell asleep.
