Rachael Point of View:
"Do they no longer serve mash potatoes with drumsticks anymore?" I ask quietly, poking my corn dogs, and resting my chin in my palm. How do I look like? I look bored.
Austin looks up from his food, mouth stuff with corn dogs, and somehow he manages to talk, "Naw a tank about ut, dats chu."
Sophie nudges her elbow at Austin and points Austin with her fork, "Don't talk with your mouth full, it's disgusting."
Austin continues stuffing corn dogs into his mouth and Sophie shakes her head, "You know what, forget what I've said."
"Hey, Austin is the football next week Friday? After the Pet Fest?" Hannah asked, settling down her plastic black tray next mine. I move to give some room for her to sit next to me, she quickly plants a kiss on my cheek.
Sophie looks at me with a questioning look in response I give her a careless shrug.
"The game is next week Friday, and I'm sure we're gonna beat the other school asses," Austin says flexing his biceps. "Cause we got the hot boys and the sexy cheerleaders."
"That's not the proper way to win a game, bro," says Mason's boyfriend, who's named Treyvon. His recent game was last week and let me tell you, boy, he's so good at basketball. He would dribble, slide, skkrrtt, and bam! Points for his teammates.
He's cute. Light chocolate skin, deep dark brown eyes, cute little dimples on each cheek, and cute curls.
"Meh," Austin waves his hand effortlessly. "That's how I play my games, you do you, man."
I continue poking my corn dog as they bickering about what's the proper way to win a game.
Why was Samantha upset when I was holding Hannah's hand? Why was Hannah popping my space bubble in the changing room? Do I have feelings for both of them, or is it all in my head?
"What's the matter?" Hannah asks breaking my thoughts, and she snakes her arm around my waist.
"Just thinking," I say truthfully. "Just got some questions that I couldn't answer...so I'm trying to find answers for them."
"I could help," Hannah says, pushing her tray away from her and rest her face in her palm as she pops up her elbow. Her arm is still around my waist pulling me closer, but I keep the distance between us.
"Umm...it's okay," I say.
Hannah gives me a concerned look before kissing me on the forehead. Chills ran up my spine as she did that, but I ignore it.
"It's nothing -"
"Oh right!" Hannah says all of sudden, snapping her fingers as she beams at me happily. "Are you free this Saturday? I got an extra ticket for the movie theater, and I want to invite you."
"When? What time? What's the movie?" I shot her questions. "Who would turn down a free ticket?"
Hannah erupts with waves of laughter, "You're so cute, Rachael. The movie is called The Half Of It by Alice Wu, and the movie starts in the afternoon. I can pick you up if you're up for it."
"Yes!" I screech in happiness. "Bruh, I've been waiting for the time to watch that movie! I heard it's so good!"
"Sweet, give me your address and I'll pick you up this Saturday," She says, giving me a side hug.
"Alright," I say.
"It's a date then."
"Wait, what?"
"Er, it's a friendly date is what I mean," Hannah mumbled.
"Rachael," said a stern voice behind me, Hannah and I turn around to see Samantha standing there with her fists clenched. Hannah pushes me away and I went for the floor.
"Oh shit, I'm so sorry, Rachael," Hannah says, helping me up.
I glared at her, "You're trying to kill me today, and your kisses aren't making it any better if I keep on getting thrown around like a dead rat."
"Kisses?" Samantha asks in annoyance.
"Nothing for you to worry about," Hannah says quickly. "What do you want, Samantha?"
"Rachael, I need to talk to you," Samantha says looking away from Hannah.
"So you finally made up your mind and want to talk to me?" I ask crossing my arms. Geez, took her long enough, I would appreciate it if she was like that when we first met.
She gives me a couple of blinks before turning around and starts walking away. Austin, Sophie, and Mason gives me a questioning look as I grab my backpack.
"I'll see you guys later?" I said, more like a question. "I think I'll be back?"
"Or be mine," Hannah says, grabbing my arm and looks into my eyes.
I give her a questioning look before pulling out of her grasp, be hers? Wait, like those Valentine's candy? Be mine? Wait...be mine? As in...be my...uh..candy? Ugh!
I jog up to Samantha, then I point at her and then back to me.
"What?" She asks, taking out her earbuds and put her phone into her pocket.
"You said you want to talk with me if I remember correctly," I said, look at my watch and back to her. "Clock is ticking."
"The clock has been ticking ever since you were kissing your girlfriend," Samantha snarls at me, eyes showing the mixture of annoyance and anger.
Girlfriend? Kissing? Kissing my girlfriend? Who the fuck is my girlfriend? Last time I check, I broke up with Becky and stayed single. Kissing? Kissing who? I don't remember putting my lips on a nasty bitch.
She let out a deep breath and shakes her head, "We're in the same group for our last class."
"How did you know that?" I ask. "We're getting to know our groups today, how did you know beforehand?"
"You're irresponsible," Samantha says, flipping out her phone from her pocket.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"She emailed us the groups, idiot," Samantha says, tapping on her phone and shows me the email.
I roll my eyes, and in a sassy tone, I said, "Well I'm sorry, bitch. I don't check my emails every day like you."
"Chill," Samantha says, flipping her hair to one side.
"So is that all you've got to tell me about?" I ask.
She looks up at the ceiling and I look up with her too. Only seeing plain white.
"What is it?" I ask, a bit softer.
Finally, she says, "Our relationship."
