"Now you are the only one left. You are the sole heir to the Family Business. Try not to ruin it like the jackasses before you."
Although she never said these exact words to my face, I can see my grandmother saying it. She was such an amazing woman. She taught me everything I know and when she could no longer teach me or protect me; she brought my grandfather in.
He was a twisted man. He spent his entire life focused on his work. At the end that may have been what caused the accident that killed him. Grandma Sophia disposed of their remains. I trust that it will never be an issue again.
It might sound selfish, but she did me a favour. I am free from the pressure to be a carbon copy of the surgeons before me. I can take my own interests and ideas in the field to a new level.
She explained in her confession that she only realized when it was too late that she needed to stop the games. When her husband was reluctant, she figured out a way to end everything. She said it was the only way I would ever live a normal life.
She was right.
