Chapter Four
Six o’clock was only a few minutes away. I have been getting ready around my house all day. I just got done setting the table and my father was cooking chicken with little side dishes to go with it.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. It was Lewis, so I opened the door and gave him a hug. “Hey!” He tells me. “Hi. How have you been?” I ask him. “Better that I am here.” He replies. “Awe!” I say out loud. “Yeah.” He replies. “My parents are in the kitchen so let’s go in there.” I tell him and we walk to the kitchen.
“Hi Mrs. and Mr. Alderman!” Lewis said to them. “I am Lewis Olsen.” He then goes on saying. “Welcome to our house!” My mother told Lewis. “Thanks.” He says. “I appreciate being invited for dinner.” He then says. “You are welcome to come over!” My father adds in. “Is dinner almost ready?” I ask my dad. “About fifteen minutes.” He says and keeps cooking. “I will show Lewis around.” I tell my parents and bring him upstairs.
I basically showed him where the bathroom was and then I brought him into my room where we hung out for a little. “Your parents are nice.” He says. “Just when you are over!” I tell him. “Let’s hope they like me.” Lewis says out loud. “They will.” I reply to him.
“Do you want me to ask them about Florida?” Lewis asks me. “No, I will when you leave.” I tell him. “Okay, sounds good!” Lewis smiles and says. We walk downstairs and sit at the table. “So Lewis, you are a senior?” My mother asks. “Yes.” Lewis responds. “That is nice.” My mother tells Lewis as he coughs a little. There was a pause of awkward silence.
“Dinner is ready!” My father screams. “Yay!” I yell. Lewis looks at me and grabs my hand. I realize that he was about to go in for a kiss. I try to nod my head to tell him no, but he keeps moving his lips towards my face. As my mother helps my father get the plates he kisses me. I can tell my mother saw that, but I guess it is too late to take that back.
What I don’t understand is that Lewis and I are not really dating, and he is always hugging and kissing me. It bothers me that he never really asked me out and that I am really in love with him. Could he just be faking this? I mean I got a phone call from his friend, Joey, and he was laughing about something. What if they were laughing at me thinking he would actually ask me out.
“I will be back I have to go to the bathroom.” Lewis says getting up. “I am going to go with him to show him where to go.” I tell my parents and get up too. We both walk up the stairs. “Baby, I know where it is!” He tells me straight forward. “I just wanted to get away from the awkwardness.” I tell him. “I have to tell you something.” He tells me. “What?” I question. Things just got a little serious. “Why were you trying to deny my kiss?” He asks me. I don’t respond and walk back to the kitchen and sit down in the chair. I assume he goes into the bathroom.
My parents were staring at me when I sat back down. “Didn’t he know where the bathroom is?” My father asks me. “Yes. I guess he did. I thought he would forget.” I say and my mother laughs. “What is taking him so long?” I say out loud. “He is going to the bathroom!” My mother smiles and says. “Still.” I say and just keep eating. A few minutes later Lewis walks down the stairs. “I am back!” He says. We all eat and chat for a little.
An hour later, it was time for Lewis to head home. “Thank you for having me over for dinner, I appreciate your kindness.” He says and shakes both my parents’ hands. “It was nice meeting you.” My parents say together. “Bye!” I tell him and he hugs me. “Actually, I will walk you out.” I say and go with him.
We make it to his car and he hugs me again. He goes in for another kiss, and I actually was ready for this one. “You never answered my question.” He tells me. “What question?” I act dumb. “The one about why you were denying my kiss.” He gets mad. “Oh, because my parents were there and I don’t want them to think anything.” I say and he gets in his car and waves goodbye.
When I got back into the house, I had to clean the table. “That was nice.” My mother says. I laugh because half of the time it was awkward silence. “He is nice.” My father adds. “Thanks dad!” I tell him and walk to my room.
Right as I got into my room, I noticed a piece of paper on my bed. I opened it up and it read,
Dear Adalynn,
My love! I know I just had dinner with you and your family. Your parents seem nice. As you can tell, I went in your room instead of going to the bathroom. Sorry for lying! I just wanted to write this letter to you because I wanted to tell you something. That something is that I really love you and I am sorry for last night. My friend Joey got your number off my phone and he called you. I guess he was dared to call a girl, so he decided to take your number. I am sorry of what you thought of him. He probably said a bunch of crap that was all a lie. I wish I could give you another hug! I really love you! Have a good rest of your day and don’t forget to ask your parents about Florida. I figured you would read this if I left it on your bed.
Love,
Lewis
I figured he didn’t really go to the bathroom. If all of what Joey said was a lie, then I guess Lewis will never ask me out.
