Chapter Three

I must have fell asleep early last night. I have just woken up to a text from Lewis saying, ‘Good morning Adalynn!’ I smiled as I read it. I decided not to text him back yet because I was still a bit tired.

Eventually I took my phone off the charger and replied to him say, ‘Hey! How is your morning?’ After only a few seconds I got a reply from him, ‘It is alright. Did you ask about Florida?’ I knew he was going to ask that. I should have asked last night, darn. ‘Sorry, my parents got in a fight with me last night, so I didn’t have the time to ask my parents.’ I replied probably sounding like I get abused or something.

It took an hour to get a reply, ‘It’s fine. Are you alright?’ I stared at the texted for a few seconds. I am starting to think that he thinks I am abused. This isn’t good, I don’t want him thinking that. ‘Yes, I am not hurt or anything. My dad just got mad that I wasn’t home when he woke up. My mom, I guess, didn’t tell him I was going out with you.’ I replied to him and sent it without noticing the details I really put into that message.

‘I feel like this is partly my fault. I am sorry. If you want I can come and talk to your parents?’ He sends this message. I feel bad that he feels it is his fault. It is just my father being stupid yelling at me for going out. ‘It isn’t your fault. I think I can handle it on my own. I mean if you want to meet my parents that is fine then.’ I reply to him.

‘I don’t mind meeting your parents. I think they will feel safer letting you go to Florida with me if I talk to them.’ He then replies to me. ‘Okay, I will ask my parents if we can have dinner maybe tonight if it is okay with all of you.’ I tell him as I get dressed and put my hair in a bun. ‘I can do it tonight, anytime really. Don’t have much going on this summer.’ He sends me.

‘Same. I will ask them in a few minutes just got up like an hour ago and could hardly drag myself out of bed.’ I reply to his message as I walk downstairs for breakfast. When I get down the stairs my mom was sitting at the table with my dad cooking some breakfast. “What is for breakfast?” I ask, just like I do every other morning. “Eggs and bacon.” My dad says as he begins to crack the eggs into the pan. “I wanted pancakes!” I say jokingly because that was what we had the last few mornings. “Changed it up!” My dad joked back. “Mom can I ask you something?” I ask my mother. “Can I hear what you have to say?” My father adds to it. “Sure.” I say with some relief.

“Can Lewis come over for dinner?” I ask both of them. “I am okay with that if your father agrees.” She says. “Who is Lewis?” My father questions. “A senior who is really cute.” I explain to him. “How long have you known him for?” My father also asks. “I knew him since freshman year, but I just started to talk to him now.” I answer. “Is he nice?” My dad questioned. “Of course!” I told him. “Then he can come for dinner.” My dad said and then finished cooking breakfast.

“Here is your bacon and eggs!” He says to me and hands me a plate full of food. “Yum!” I say with excitement. “Where is mine?” My mother laughs. “Coming right up!” My dad says. He hands her a plate full of food and a cup of coffee. Then, he gets his breakfast himself.

Since my dad cooks my mom cleans the kitchen up afterwards and I just get to wash the table down. I don’t mind my job, it is better than cooking or dishwashing. After I finished cleaning up the table I go upstairs to my phone. I text Lewis, ‘Asked my parents if you could come for dinner and they said yes. Come over at around six o’clock.’ After a few minutes I got a text from him, ‘Alright, sounds good! Be there then! I love you!’ I could just imagine him saying that to me. I wish he was here right now. ‘Love you too! Can’t wait to see you!’ I say and then got a big smile on my face.

Time went by slowly. I decided to clean my house to try and impress Lewis when he comes over. “Mom where is the vacuum?” I scream down the stairs. “In the laundry room.” She replies to me. I run to get it and vacuum my whole house, and I mop the bathrooms and kitchen. Time still has been going by slowly it is only about noon and I have nothing to do. I am beginning to regret summer after I just started liking it.

My phone began to ring. ‘Hello?’ I say through my phone. ‘Is this Adalynn Alderman?’ The person said. ‘Yes. Who is this?’ I question. ‘This is Joey.’ He says. ‘Who is Joey?’ I ask. ‘Joey, Lewis’ friend.’ He then explains. ‘Oh. What do you want?’ I then question. ‘I have to tell you something.’ He says. ‘What?’ I ask. ‘Promise not to tell Lewis I told you?’ Joey asks me. ‘Promise, I guess.’ I then reply. ‘Lewis really loves you and is going to ask you out soon.’ Joey then laughs and tells me. ‘I know that.’ I respond. ‘Really?’ He questions. ‘Yes, we went on a date already!’ I yell. ‘And he didn’t ask you out?’ He says questioning me. ‘Not yet.’ I say to him. ‘He will soon!’ Joey then says and he smirks. ‘What is so funny?’ I ask Joey. I could hear people in the background. ‘Nothing. I will let you go. Bye!’ Joey hangs up the phone.

I am beginning to think something is wrong with Lewis’ friends. Why would Joey call me? How is any of this his business anyways? Who was with him when he told me that? Better not have been Lewis.
