Chapter Two
I couldn’t believe that I was actually on a date. This is like my first date since freshmen year. I feel like this is all a dream and I am just such a loner that none of this would really happen. I face the fact that this is actually true, and that I am really on a date.
“Lewis, you are very sexy!” I say as I put my hand on his shoulder. We begin walking the garden full of beautiful flowers and plants of all kinds. “I love you.” Lewis tells me. I actually am feeling the love from him. I take my hand off of his shoulder and allow him to hold my hand. We have little conversations and mainly watch the butterflies fly in the garden.
“This is a lovely date!” I tell him. “I thought it would be.” He says and gives me a hug. Is this really happening right now? Lewis Olson just hugged me and he actually loves me? I can’t believe any of it. I would never be the girl that he would like to date or be around. This isn’t happening.
Before I could realize how real this actually was he wanted to ask me something. “Would you like to go with me to this cottage in Florida?” He asks me. I hesitate and think for a few seconds. Questions form my mind because I would have to ask my mom and dad. “Can I answer this later?” I question awkwardly. “Yes, I understand.” He seems a little sad. “I am sorry.” I say. “I better go.” I say and walk away. “Wait!” He yells as I am walking away. “What?” I ask. “Come here!” He says. I walk towards him and he walks towards me. We hold hands and he hugs me. “I love you!” He says. “I love you too!” I reply and walk to my car.
As I drive home I turn on my radio. The music that is playing is rather sad. It is about break ups and love life. I get mad and turn off the radio. The rest of the way home I drove in silence thinking of what just happened. Lewis Olsen just asked me to go with him to Florida. Can this really be real? I never thought he would do this. I am not his type of girl, but I guess I am now.
I entered into my house with my parents sitting at the table. “Where have you been?” My father questioned me. “Mom knows where I was. What does it matter?” I say a little sassy. As you might be already to tell, I don’t have that well of a relationship with my father. He wasn’t there for me when I was little. My father was in jail when I was little, so I was mainly raised by my mother.
Living in an apartment with my mother, my grandma, and my grandpa made my life a little tight. I had to sleep on the same bed as my mother and in the same room my grandparents also slept. My mother hardly had enough money to raise me while my father had a bunch of fines that he needed to pay and serve time in jail. I guess this all paid off when my father got out and finally got a job to support my mother and me.
“Adalynn!” My father screamed. “What do you want?” I ask back very angry. “That isn’t the right way to respond to your father!” He yells at me. “How are you even my father?” I say and I can tell my makeup is smearing. “Easy, I married your mom and decided that we would have se--” He was saying when I realized what he was about to say and I really didn’t want to hear that, so I stopped him.
“I still don’t understand how you could be my father. All you did was get drunk and get caught driving and then you went to jail. You weren’t even a father figure to me!” I got very emotional and went all off on him. “Adalynn, sweetie, please stop yelling at him.” My mother pitched in. She is only married to my father because of money issues and because they are too lazy to get divorced. All they do is fight with each other and get pissed at me anyways.
“Let’s change the subject now.” My mother said. “How was your date?” She then went on saying. “Oh, so she was going out with some guy?” My father had to say. “Yes.” My mother replied and then ignored the rest of his questions. “Mom, let’s not talk about this right now.” I say to her and then the conversation is over. I go upstairs to my room, and shut my door. I just wanted to sit on my bed in peacefulness for once in my life.
