And So The War Started

It’s been three months since any incident between our families. I know my dad has been plotting his revenge, I can feel it. I’m kind of just waiting for all hell to break loose. Well, that hell hasn’t happened yet and I’ve been living in pure heaven. Four months of dating Dante. It’s been perfect. He’s been perfect. He is the perfect boyfriend. He takes me out on dates at least once a week. We talk on the phone almost every night. I don’t know. I’ve just never had a boyfriend who’s appreciated and loved me as much as Dante does. I feel like he needs me and I need him. I wonder if that’s how Romeo and Juliet felt. Although their love was a complete naïve obsession that turned suicidal. Although us we are playing with danger right now as we are literally standing in the line of fire. I would say that we’ve gone blind to what’s going on around us, but that’s not the case. We completely know what’s going on. We’re just choosing to ignore it. We’ve found that ignoring the bullshit feud going on is making us a lot less stressed out and a lot happier. I felt my phone buzzing.

“Hello.” I said flipping through the channels trying to find something good to watch.

“Hey babe.” He said happily making me smile.

“Hey baby. What’s up?” I asked settling on cartoons.

“Nothing much. Just wanted to hear your voice.” He said sweetly.

“Well that’s as good a reason to call as any.” I said with a slight laugh.

“So what are your plans for the day?” He asked and I heard shuffling.

“Nothing much. Probably sitting in my bed binge watching a series on Netflix or something.” I said going over what I normally did on breaks. And now that it’s winter break I had more time to do all the lazy stuff I wanted to do.

“Mmm. Sounds like fun.” He said with a slight laugh.

“It is fun, but I’d much rather spend the day with you.” I said sadly.

“I know. I know, but my dad has me working all day. I think he just wants me out the house because he’s planning on doing something. But whatever. I’m not getting myself involved in the dirty part of the business.” He said before sighing.

“I know it’s hard babe, but you only have a couple months left before we graduate and go off to college. You can start all over somewhere else.” I said sounding optimistic.

“Yea. I’ve already told my dad I don’t want the business. He fought me about it for a while before finally accepting it. Now my older cousin is going to inherit it. I’m just afraid of what’s going to happen to Calia when I leave.” He said and I could hear the worry in his voice. He loved his little sister.

“Yea. I wonder that about Aiden too. But we lasted nearly 18 years without getting terribly injured. I’m pretty sure they can too. Especially if some how we find a way to end all of this.” I said hopefully.

“I love your positive thinking.” He said and I could hear the smile in his voice.

“Anything to make my baby happy.” I said sweetly.

“This is why I love you.” He said happily.

“Love you too babe.” I replied laughing.

“Anyways, I’ve got to go. I’ll talk to you tonight.” He said sounding sadly.

“Alright babe. Talk to you later.” I said matching his sadness.

“Love you.” He said.

“Love you too.” I replied before hanging up. I checked the time 2:32. The mail should be here by now. I’ll just go check that so my parents won’t have to. Throwing on my cheer sweatshirt I went downstairs. Putting on some boots I went outside and walked to the mailbox. I got the mail and skimmed through it fairly quickly. I had gotten some letters from some colleges wanting me to apply there. Eh. I already had my sights on a college but some back up colleges could never hurt. Suddenly I felt a cloth come over my nose and mouth. I struggled for a while but the man was bigger and stronger than I was. Soon my vision started going black and I was unconscious.
