As Valerie stepped foot into the school, all the kids started crowding around her. It wasn't Amy Sherman, the most popular girl in school, it was HER. Valerie Shapiro. There wasn't even enough room for her sister to walk with her, like they always do. And Val knew why. One word: JOSH. Ever since she and Josh started going out, (which was only for TWO days) EVERYONE has been saying "Hello" or "Hi" or started a conversation with her in the gym, or the park. So many people came to their rehearsal yesterday; they had to let in the first 20 people that texted Josh. Videos were posted online, and were sent to everyone in the school. Their videos didn't even get many views. About 500 or so. Not much for Youtube.
As the wave of kids washed over Valerie, she looked for her sister. She saw her, in the back of the crowd. Val motioned her hand signal where she rolls her fingers around in the air, which means "I'll be there later" in their secret hand language. But all Becka did was did was mouth "It's okay." to Val. "I'm okay." she said, smiling. But Val could see right through it. She didn't see anybody in the crowd anymore. All she saw was her sister, and the pain in her eyes.
But before Val could rip through the crowd and catch up with her sister, someone covered her eyes. "Guess who!" a deep voice said. "Josh. I HAVE to get out of this crowd." Val said, turning around, and giving him a concerned look. "Hello to you too." Josh said, trying to cheer her up. She just stood there, disappointed, crossing her arms. "Okay, I'll get you out of here." Josh said, putting his joke aside, and getting her through the crowd.
"Thanks. And Hello." Val said when they were finally out. She kissed him on the cheek, and then she saw a flash of light. It was some kid, trying to take a picture of them. She noticed him from the gossip column. He was going to put this in the school gossip column! No. This can't happen.
"Gimme that camera..." Val said, trying to control her anger. She never liked to be the center of attention, only when she was playing basketball, or any other sport. But right now...she seemed to be the center of everyone's attention. "No way! This is great stuff for the gossip column!" The kid said, looking through his pictures of them. Val snatched the camera from him so fast; he barely noticed it coming out of his hands. "HEY! GIVE IT BACK!" He said, trying to get it. He ran toward her, arms reached out for the camera, but Josh stepped right in front of him, and put his palm on his forehead. Now all that was moving was the photographer, trying to move, but Josh's hand was in the way. Val deleted the pictures, and threw the camera back to him. He caught it, and ran away.
"HAVEN'T YOU EVER HEARD OF 'DONT TOUCH PEOPLES'S BELONGINGS??!?!' “He screamed, as he walked away.” HAVENT YOU EVER HEARD OF 'PERSONAL SPACE' OR 'PEOPLE'S PRIVACY?!?!'" Val said back to him. He couldn't hurt her with any of his actions. She would just go right back at him.
"Okay, now I think that if you all want your reputations at school to stay the same, and NOT plop down to the ground, you would all scooch, and give us our personal space. We're just kids, not some celebrities. GOHD, get over us, people.” Josh said, motioning them to walk away.
Soon the crowd dispersed, and they were just kids...in a hallway...full of talking kids. Not some celebs who everyone wanted to hang out with, and get their pictures taken with.
"We gotta get to the Cupcakes." Val said her disappointed look back on her face. "Okay. Do you guys meet somewhere, like at a locker, or by a classroom or something?" Josh asked.
"Yeah. We meet by Sophie's locker. It's right three lockers down from the Music Room." Val said, running through the hall, toward the music room. She stopped halfway down the hallway to find Josh still standing in the same spot he was when she started running. "Well, you coming? I kinda need you." Val said, and Josh ran toward her.
"No running in the halls, Joshua." Mrs. Garcia, the Spanish teacher said, as Josh ran toward Val. "Sorry Mrs. Garcia..." Josh said, and walked toward Val.
"Heh. Heh. JOSHUA." Val said, making fun of his full name. "Stop it. I HATE being called that." Josh said, sounding kind of annoyed. "Okay...I'll stop..."Val said, waiting about five seconds, while they were WALKING down the hallway.” Joshua, oh Joshua! Come eat yoaw suppah!" Val said like some kind of English mom. She giggled and looked at the floor, trying not to burst into laughter. She looked up, and saw that Josh had stopped, and his arms were crossed, and he was trying not to smile. They looked at each other and burst into laughter. Then Val looked at her watch. "WE HAVE TO GET THERE. NOWW!!! FIRST PERIOD STARTS IN FIVE MINUTES!!" Val screamed, and everyone looked at her. She just kept walking. "Hey, Val. I have to get my books. I totally forgot. Be right back. I'll meet you there. Kay?" Josh said, walking back to his locker.
Just as Val walked toward the corner where she had to turn to get to the main Music Room, she was stopped by a pair of hot pink stilettos, a baby pink pencil skirt, a hot pink tank top, showing lots of cleavage, and a mini baby pink fur jacket (picture over there, except the jacket is open, not closed. ---->), a bunch of pink jewelery, perfect blonde hair, and a perfect body. The girl that was staring at VAL with her icy blue eyes. The eyes nobody EVER would want to be stared at with anger. This. Was Amy Sherman. The most popular girl in the whole school. The girl that went out with out with your boyfriend to make you jealous. The girl that every boy will DIE to have.
The girl…who was Josh Young’s ex-girlfriend.
