It didn’t take me long to get to my parent’s place. They lived about ten minutes away by foot and had a whole floor to themselves in their building like most people that lived there. The elevator goes straight up the middle of the building and once you reach your floor, there’s a very short stretch of hall and you end up at the door of whoever’s floor you’re on. Unlike my place, you have to phone up when you’re in the lobby unless the doorman knows who you are because then anybody can come up to your floor and bang on your door.
Yes, I know it’s totally confusing and I have no idea how my parents are going to have a party, but I guess they’ll talk to the doorman.
Once the elevator had stopped at my parent’s floor, I walked out and knocked on the door. My mother let me in and sat me down in the living room and rushed to the kitchen to get me some tea although I told her I didn’t really need it.
You could tell that she was excited to be having this party because her house was already clean and the party wasn’t for another ten days.
“What are the last minute details?” I asked when she came back with my tea.
“Food. What should we serve?”
“I guess finger foods are good. Chips, cheese squares, things like that. Um, veggie plates are good. We’re having cake right?”
“Yes! I ordered the cutest cake to be made the other day. It’s going to be delivered the day before the party, though.”
“Is there anything else-“
My sister burst through the door.
“Hi, mom. Hi, Katie. I know I’m early, but I had nothing else to do. Oh, and I really wanted to show yall my dress!”
“You can change in guest bedroom,” when Scarlet went to the back guest room, my mom turned back to me, “What were you saying?”
“Is there anything else to discuss?”
“Nope, that was everything.”
That ticked me off. I was here for only five minutes and we were done. I could’ve stayed longer with Liam!
My sister strutted out of the room and into the living room. My jaw dropped when I saw her wearing the same exact dress that I had bought today.
“You like, huh?” Scarlet beamed, noticing my face.
“It’s lovely, Scar! You look so gorgeous in it!” My mother said.
When words came to my mind, I said, “I got the same dress today!”
My sister pursed her lips and told me, “Well, you’re going to have to get another one because it’s my birthday.”
