Chapter Two: Dresses and Ray Bans
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We walked to the street corner and stopped, waiting for the pedestrian sign to turn green.
“Is there anywhere in particular that you want to go?” I asked.
“Well, not really. I was just planning on walking around.”
“Same here. Except I have to go dress shopping.”
“Where’s the dress shop?”
“A couple blocks down that way,” I motioned to the right.
“We can go if you want to, I don’t mind.”
“Okay. Then we’ll go somewhere you want to after.”
The cross-walk light turned green and the small crowd that gathered around us crossed the street, and so did we. While we continued down the street, we talked a lot. We went back and forth, and surprisingly he was actually interested in my life story even though mine was not nearly as exciting as his.
“So what’s the occasion?” He asked.
“It’s my sister’s birthday. My parents are throwing her a huge formal party.”
“Here?”
“Yeah, usually in their flat. It’s not too far from mine.”
We came up to the shop I wanted to look in, Diana’s Boutique. It was a little shop that only sold dresses; I’d been here a couple of times. Hopefully I would be able to find a cocktail dress.
“We’ll only be here for a little bit,” I told Liam.
The storeowner, Diana, came up to me, “Anything specific I can help you with?”
“Yes! Do you have a certain section for cocktail dresses, preferably bright colored?”
“Follow me,” She said politely.
In a secluded corner of the boutique were the dresses. I could tell that there was a huge amount of dresses, but I didn’t want to take too long and annoy Liam.
"Is this your prom date?” Diana asked.
Prom? Well I guess some places could still be having proms, but most schools were out.
“No….he’s just a…uh…”
Friend?
“Friend,” Liam said.
I turned around towards the dress rack and tried to hide my huge smile. I bit my lip to try and make it go away.
“Well, I’ll leave you to your shopping. I’ll be around if you need help with anything.”
“Thank you,” I said, flipping through the racks.
Diana walked away and Liam took a seat on one of the leather chairs.
“Do you do this often?” I asked, still looking through the dresses.
“Dress shop?”
I laughed, “Hang out with random girls.”
“No.”
I felt my face redden, “What about dress shopping?”
“Never, unless I’m with my sister, Ruth. But that was once or twice.”
When I was finished going through one rack, I had three dresses to try on.
“I’ll be right back,” I slipped into the dressing room that was on the same wall as the cocktail dresses.
