Prompt: Rosa meets Newt, Minho, and Alby for the first time.
223.9.12 | 12:33 p.m.
There were footsteps outside of her door. Loud ones, reminding her of the day she was taken from her home. The day she had killed her parents.

She got up from her bed to peek out of her window like she usually did. She saw a man in their normal green jumpsuits escorting a boy. The boy had short blond hair, and he looked to be about the same age as Hannah. Rosa. She still wasn't used to her new name. She wondered where they were taking him, seeing as she hadn't been escorted out of her room in what felt like years. She only left it to go to classes.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on her door. Rosa hadn't even noticed anyone standing there. She stepped back, not wanting to get into trouble for spying. The door opened and she panicked even more when she saw an unfamiliar face.

"I'm here to take you to the cafeteria. Meet some of the other subjects. If you would like to," The man said with no emotion at all.

"Absolutely." She stood from her bed and wasted no time following the man out of her room.

She was overjoyed that she was finally going to be able to talk to someone her age. Maybe she would even meet the blond boy she had seen only minutes ago.

He took her down the same familiar hallway and into a larger room that seemed exactly like a cafeteria. There were kids everywhere sitting at tables and eating food together.

"Anywhere you would like. Make some friends," The man said nicely this time, and walked away before she could respond.

Her eyes immediately began searching for the blond boy, him being the first person she wanted to be friends with. She didn't know why he interested her so much, but he definitely did. She just felt some sort of connection with him in the seconds that she saw him. She finally spotted him at a table with two other boys and confidently walked over to them.

Rosa stopped when she was halfway there. What was she going to say? She hadn't realized how awkward this was probably going to be. She shook away her thoughts and continued walking. It wasn't going to kill her.

She finally made it to the table where the boys sat. They looked up at her, and the blond boy cracked a smile. "Hi. I'm Rosa."

The one sitting to his left had black hair and Asian features. The one sitting to his right was taller and dark-skinned.

"I'm Newt," the blond boy spoke, "This is Minho and Alby," He said pointing to his left first and then his right.

Rosa didn't really know what to say next. She should've planned this out better, but at least she finally knew the boy's name.

"I saw you," She started, not sure where this courage came from to say such a thing. Newt's smile faded as he stared at her to continue. "This morning. You walked by my room." Minho and Alby looked at me like I was crazy, but Newt smiled again.

"Well I wish I would have saw you," He spoke, ignoring the other boys looks. Rosa finally sat down across from them and gave them a smile in return.

"I've been here for three years." All three of them nodded, like they have been here the same amount of time.

"Us too," Alby said, giving her a slight smile. She appreciated their kindness, not being rude or snobby towards her.

"How do you feel about it all?" Minho asked, hesitant at first. Rosa wasn't really sure what to say, but went with her gut feeling.

"Well both of my parents had the Flare, so I want to help find a cure."

Minho nodded, like in approval of my answer. "Us too. About finding the cure anyway."

The next few months went the same way. Rosa was escorted to her classes, but now she wasn't alone. There were other kids with her, including Newt, Minho, and Alby. They sat in the cafeteria together everyday and Rosa almost felt that numbness go away a little bit.

They never really talked about their lives before they got there, other than what little information she had given them about her parents during their first meeting. It didn't bother them though. They didn't want to think about that. She liked hanging out with the three boys, but she wished they could have more time together.

Their time was mostly taken up by math, science, critical thinking, and physical challenges. Rosa seemed to be very smart, but the work was exhausting her. She didn't want to see another math equation ever again.

They wanted to have fun. They were tired of following WICKED's rules all of the time. So they came up with a plan.

"We should sneak out of our rooms tonight," Minho had suggested one day during lunch. Rosa liked the idea, but was scared of getting in trouble.

"And what if we get caught?" Newt asked, almost like he had read her mind.

"They lock us in our rooms or something. Who cares? It's worth a shot," Alby spoke this time, siding with Minho.

Newt and Rosa looked at each other, figuring out their options. They really had nothing to lose.

"Let's do it," She said proudly, smiling at each of the boys.
