The today sky was bright and cloudless. It was hot outside but I still went out to see my boyfriend. I called a cab and went over to his place. After a few seconds of ringing the doorbell, Mark came to the door with a mildly surprised look on his face.

"(Y/n), what are you doing here?" he asked.

I heaved a sigh. I didn't know how I was going to tell him. Earlier in my house, my parents had confronted me.

"(Y/n), are you still with that boyfriend of yours?" My father asked sternly.

I gave a quizzical look at both of them. "Yeah...Why are you asking me this?"

"Honey, I think it's best if you both go your separate ways." I was stunned at her words. She continued saying, "I know its not easy having to break up like this but you can find someone else..."

"What?! Are you joking? Why would I break up with him? We've been together for almost a year now and we don't have anything wrong between us."

"It's not that-" My father cut her off. "We think his 'job' is not suitable to provide for our daughter and future family. I want you to find someone who is successful and has a stable job. And I've already discussed this with your mother. We do not want someone who can't provide for the family. It's very risky."

"What do you mean? You don't control my life. You just have to get to know him better. He's the greatest and sweetest guy I have ever met. I can provide for myself as well if that's what you're worried about."

"Young lady, you are living under our roof. So what we say goes." There was a long pause of silence. I was thinking of what to say to convince them that he's more than what they think.

"But-"

"No 'buts' and that's final." I tried to hide my look of defeat and anger at my parents and stormed up the stairs into my room.

Once I slammed the door behind me, I hid my face in my pillow. I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. Why would they do this to me? I have a great relationship with him and I thought my parents would like him after a whole year of getting to know him. Apparently, they don't and want to separate us forever. I'm not going to let that happen.

As I rushed to pack my bag, I could hear my parents loudly discussing about my situation. I took this opportunity to sneak out the window and into the backyard.

"So that's what you think was best? To run away from home?" Mark asked.

"I'm sorry. I panicked and didn't know what else to do. I needed to go far from that place and hoped that I would just crash at your place." I felt ashamed for doing this.

"It's okay. I've had Wade crash at my place a couple times, mostly because he was drunk. You can sleep in the extra room upstairs." He gestured for me to follow him.

"Thank you. I owe you big time." I settled my bag down and jumped onto the bed. It was a bit dusty but I could clean it up later. "Its not as comfy as a hotel but you'll get used to it." Mark smiled, leaning against the doorway. He walked out after seeing that I was satisfied with the room. For now, this is temporary. But maybe this could be permanent. As long as I'm not under my parents roof, I don't have to follow everything they say.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I quickly sat up straight like I was dunked in a cold bath. Mark went to the door and opened it. "Uh, hi Mrs. (Y/l/n). What brings you here?" Oh, no. My mom's here and she going to drag me back home.

"I'm sorry to bother you. Is my daughter here now?" she asked. I was praying to whichever god out there that Mark would get my mom off my trail.

Mark responded with confidence, "I can't say I've seen her come through this door. What's this all about?"

I was at the top of the stairs trying to see what was going on without my mom spotting me. I didn't see her but I could hear her sigh heavily. "It's nothing to worry about. Anyway, if you do see her...please give me a call."

Mark gave her a comforting smile. "Sure thing. See you around." He waved her goodbye and closed the door.

I sighed with relief. Mark turned to me and gave me a worried look. "You should talk to them, work things out at least."

I shook my head. "Sooner or later they might find me at your place. And they will pull us apart from each other. I don't want to get you in the crossfire of my family issues, but I also want to stay with you longer."

We both let the silence take over, letting our minds figure out what to do in this situation. Mark broke the silence, "We could move to L.A. together...."

My eye's went wide at the suggestion. "Really? You want to do that?"

"I was gonna tell you that I would be moving to Los Angeles in a couple months...but maybe we could do that a little earlier." He went up to me and held my hands, giving me comfort.

"I have no problems with that. Besides, I can help you with the packing." I smiled at him. As Mark was turning away to walk back down the steps, I said to him, "Thank you. For everything."

He turned with a loving smile on his face. "Anything for the girl who would risk her ass just to see me." I tried not to blush at the way he said it.

Walking into my new room to take a nap, the only thing running around in my head was, HOLY COW! I'M GOING TO L.A. WITH MY BOYFRIEND!
