Mr. Hyde Thompson. A young male, probably in his early or mid twenties with short blonde hair and freckles sprinkled across his cheeks and has a nice attitude and the only teacher whom she is close to, was busy discussing his new lecture in Literature.
Usually, Raven always has her ears and attention focused in Mr. Thompson's lessons, but right now, the blue sky outside the window next to her seat seemed even more interesting. Her eyes were lifeless and groggy. Stressing too much about what Antoinette had said and about that torn registration form. This was the first time she had let Antoinette get to her.
From all those times Antoinette had tried to torture her middle school life from bringing up the past to her advantage just to bring her down. Pretty pathetic is what Raven always thought about that girl's antics. She regretted ever trusting her.
But this time, it had struck pretty hard. Ripping her hopes and dreams in the form of paper was one thing. But involving her brother and his past life being a swashbuckling delinquent and a leader of his very own gang back in the day was crossing over the line.
She loved her big brother very dearly. Because of him, the three of them wefe still together. Because of him, they could afford going to Prescott. Because of him, she learnt a lot of defense and combat skills.
Because of him, she's alive.
She sighed and closed her eyes, her cheek against her palm before opening them again to watch the clouds float by. She turned towards her notebok and started drawing a stag's head meticulously. She added intricate lines that made the head seemed so detailed and refined. She was completely shut out from the outside world as she dazed into her own little bubble.
"Ms. Midwinter?"
No response.
"Ms. Midwinter." Mr. Thompson raised his voice to gain Raven's undivided attention from sketching. Luckily, his voice reached her and she perked her head up from her palm.
"Hmm? What is it sir?" She asked.
"I am asking you something about summarizing paragraphs. How about something more advance. Please stand up."
Oh no. Raven thought while standing up hesitantly
"Can you give us the main elements of a research concept paper?"
Students started snickering and giggling, thinking how pathetic she looked. But Raven instantly scanned through her brain. Images of last week's advance reading from her textbook appeared and found the answer.
"References. Statement of the Problem. Title page. Survey Research. Research Questions. Goal Statement. Preliminary Literature Review and Abridged Methodology." Raven answered calmly.
Mr. Thompson looked at Raven with a pleased and handsome smirk—that made the girls weak on the knees and coo-- but she just scoffed and chuckled at the girls reactions.
She coughed into her mouth to get Mr. Thompson's attention. "Sir?"
"Oh yes, thank you very much Raven, you may take your seat."
She nodded and slowly sat down on her chair. Suddenly, a tap on the shoulder caught Raven's attention again. She inwardly sighed and ignored the tap tap tapping.
The tapping became even more annoying to Raven. This person must've had a death wish since he kept on annoying her.
Suddenly, the tapping paused. She thank the heavens when the tapping stopped. But regretted it for a second since they moved to poking her back with their pen.
Ravens left eye twitch and to end her own suffering, she turned around and gave that person an icy glare.
"What do you want Calyx?" She spat out quietly at him. Calyx recoiled his arm, pen in hand before looking at her apologetically.
"I'm sorry but my notebook fell in your open bag. I like its rude if I just dip my hand in there and take it." Calyx said and gave her an apologetic look.
