Growing Back

Soon enough, Connor and Evan were both released from the hospital. Evan managed (somehow) to save Connor from trial for assault and attempted murder, and Connor got the best therapist in town, Angelica Schuyler. The thing about Angelica is that she worked at their high school, and she had depression during her middle school and high school years, including multiple suicide attempts. She knew how it felt and how to make Connor feel better. Angelica gave Connor a new sketchbook, and she gave Evan a guide to pretty much all the trees that lived in North America, which Evan read day in and day out. She also confiscated all of Connor's razors and told Connor to snap a hair tie against his wrist or pinch himself instead of cutting. She also gave Connor a large foam cylinder to punch if he got angry. She told Connor he would be better off with no medicine in his house at all, including antidepressants.

Evan was happy. Connor was... almost happy. Everything was okay.

Connor and Evan went to an orchard.

The trees were shining against the setting sun, Evan and Connor were smiling, with an empty container that used to contain A La Mode ice cream. Evan laid on Connor's shoulder, Connor smiled, staring at the sun.

The sun shone down on the two, highlighting them together against a sea of trees and sky.

Connor looked at Evan, kissing him, smiling.

Evan looked at Connor, kissing him back, smiling.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

We'll be alright, for forever, this way.
