Unbeknownst to the Montagues, Merry-Sue spent the evening in their old dog house. It was a small, but very comfortable and homely construction in the backyard, made for the family's old pet. After the poor dog died of old age, Mrs Montague was so devistated that she sealed the dog house and no one was allowed to enter it, to spring up old memories. But, during Merry-Sue's first visit, Rachel and Becky had thought of tidying it up a bit and letting Merry-Sue sleep there. It was a far better option than having her out on the street or having to hide her every evening in Becky's room. As Mr and Mrs Montague were under the impression that Merry-Sue was a normal girl who just happened to be friends with their daughter, they would become considerably suspicious if she spent every night for months at their house. And explaining how Merry-Sue was actually the future queen of the past and no she wasn't crazy was far more difficult than just having her sleep in the dog house.
This time, however, Merry-Sue lodged there without the knowledge of any of the Montagues. She couldn't bring herself to go back to Becky after her conversation with Mrs Montague, so she just came here, hoping for some comfort and maybe some good old nostalgia. The fuzzy pink carpet and walls used to be far less creepy when Rachel and Becky were next to her with snacks and late night stories though. Now it was just depressing.
Merry-Sue curled up in a ball next to the dog bed, which was stocked with snacks and sodas, mostly all expired by now, and tried to fall asleep. After almost two hours of restlessly thinking about how miserably different things were going to be from now on, she at last managed to doze off. Her dreams were vivid and almost tangible, interlaced with images of the Old and New Becky, of Alison hitting Merry-Sue over the head with Bobby in a public restroom, Medusa and Ther sentencing Merry-Sue to forever be their housemaid because she stole the Sword and an odd one of Mrs Montague holding Merry-Sue by the hand and taking her to kindergarted.
When Merry-Sue woke up, the sun was way ahead of her. She peaked out of the curtained dog house window and noticed the family car was still in the driveway. Taking this as a hopeful sign that Rachel and Becky had not left for school yet, Merry-Sue fastened the Sword to the belt of her bright green trousers (Note to Cave Self: find new clothes.) and exited the dog house. Somehow deciding it was better than knocking or simply getting in through the downstairs window, Merry-Sue scaled the water spout on the back outside wall of the house and ninja warriored her way to the sil of Rachel's window. Her cave strength and small figure allowed for this to be very doable and she was thankful that the Sword wasn't particularly heavy either. Once she found herself dangling from Rachel's window frame, she tapped the glass with her fingernail.
From within her room, Rachel saw a horrible sight. There was a dismembered hand with shrivelled skin and disgusting fingernails (in Merry-Sue's defense, maintaining hygene and hydrated skin in BC wasn't easy) hovering behind her window and trying to get inside. She would've screamed had she not quickly spotted Merry-Sue's wild bushy hair bobbing up and down in the corner of the window. Rachel rushed to lift up the heavy glass and pull the cave girl into her room.
"Merry-Sue?! Are you insane?" Rachel scolded, "Have you forgotten about front doors?"
Merry-Sue found out that it was only 7 am and she still had time to get ready and make it to school. Rachel helped her pick out some appropriate clothing, which consisted of a pair of old, washed out bell bottoms, a yellow tank top with some Bohemian print on it and a denim jacket. She was giving off a serious hipster vibe, but it was said to do until Rachel could buy some fake leopard print leather and sew her a new dress. Merry-Sue was very thankful.
"How are you getting to school?" Rachel asked, "It would be pretty random if you just went ahead and hopped into our family car."
Merry-Sue was almost defeated at the prospect of this new obstacle and was about to morosely ask Rachel if she knew the school bus schedule, when she witnessed Rachel pull out a pair of shiny silver keys. Then she realized Rachel was merely setting up a dramatic way of showing off her new driver's license and, more importantly, her new car. And thus, Rachel helped the cave girl sneak out of the house and get to the garage.
