This was too funny. My best friend, has a crush on my other best friend.

I walked up to the mansion doors. I just got back from a competition which I had gone to right after my grad party. I opened the door and was shot with a Nerf bullet. The funny thing is, I didn't know the person who had shot me. I looked around me at the 3 men who I didn't know.

Jackie: Who are these people?
Dillon: Oh shit. Look you weren't supposed to be home for another hour. Mom and Dad are out and they'll be back soon. They were supposed to explain-

Dillon: This is Gage, he's 19 almost the same age as you. To his left is Nathan, he's 24 and is a cop. And to Nathan's left is Jeremy, he's 23 and is a singer.
Jackie: Okay and they're your friends?

All of us were becoming really close fast. It made up for the fact that I didn't know about them until recently. While I was still closest with Dillon and genuinely looked up to him, Gage and I were almost like twins. We did almost everything together and we were so close in age.

Gage and I drive to pick up some Chinese food for dinner. This must be important if a meeting was called for the whole family.

Gage: What do you think it is?
Jackie: I have no idea. I'm glad someone called this meeting though because I have something to tell you guys too.
Gage: Care to let me know first?
Jackie: Nope.
Gage: Are you ok? You've kinda been bitch mode all day.

I punched his arm.

Gage: Hey hey! I mean you've seemed down. You know what I meant J.
Jackie: Sadly I know exactly what you mean. Look I know it may sound stupid -
Gage: Its not stupid if it's making my sister upset.
Jackie: It's one of the things I'm gonna say tonight.
Gage: Tell me about it now. I know you, and you're going to try to be strong while saying whatever this is. But here in this car; it's ok to be a little vulnerable.
Jackie: My dad died. I hadn't seen him since I was 15 and my mom thought I'd feel guilty about it. I don't though. What he's done to me and put me through... it's just not the same.

I pulled out an envelope.

Jackie: This is what he left me behind. I haven't opened it yet.

We arrived at Mandarin and Gage parked the car. He took the envelope and used his keys to slit opened the card.

Gage: I'm not going to read this. You get to decide what you want me to know.
Jackie: Okay....... okay.

I took the envelope and pulled out a letter written in red pen.

Jackie,

I know I'm dying. You don't get to know why, or attend my funeral. You left me. Now I leave you with the haunting thoughts I'm leaving you behind with that are listed below.

Gage grabbed me and I cried on his shoulder.

Jackie: I want you to read the whole thing.

Gage read it over. I didn't even bother to watch his facial expressions. I was too overwhelmed to even think straight.

Gage: He's such a dick and you don't deserve to be treated this way. I don't even know how you're so kind and giving and intelligent when you had parents like this. Jackie, you know your mom isn't gonna get to you. The mansion has 24 hour protection. You know Max and Kilorn have everything under control at all times. Hell we even have gates around our property!!
Jackie: Somewhere, in my mind, I know you're right. But I can't think right now. Can we just go get the food and go home for the meeting before we are late?
Gage: ... sure. If that's what you want.
