We're not stars.... We're all just dorks in a band

Blink 182

- Nathan P.O.V -

Half an hour later and we'd barely done anything. There was just so much noise and confusion. Everyone was getting to know each other quite well, which was good, but we hadn't gotten anything about why we were actually there sorted. It was almost impossible to try and quieten everyone. Not that I was trying. I was looking at Sephy most of the time. Lost in thought.

At that moment, she was laughing with Adam, Sammie and Mel. I smiled. And that was it. That was all I felt like doing when I was around her. Was that strange? Yes. I didn't like it. Feeling so vulnerable every time she looked at me. Every time our eyes met. And her eyes were amazing. Really deep, dark brown and they always seemed bright. She was so, beautiful and... It was unreal that I hadn't noticed her before all this. Whatever this was.

I dropped my eyes to my hands, sure my cheeks were slightly pink. It was embarrassing. I could never look at her for too long without feeling...weird. And like a bit of a pervert too, to be honest.

I thought back to what Sephy had said back in detention. Was it really like that? Was I that much of a heart breaker, or was Sephy exaggerating? Again, I smiled. She would.

Thinking back to all the girls I'd been with, I realised the numbers seemed to dwindling recently, and as hard as I tried, I couldn't remember seeing them more than twice after our first date/kiss/whatever else we did (Sam would be winking at this point).

So Sephy was right. What was wrong with me? What were people thinking? What was Sephy thinking? Was I just some kind of man-whore? Though I actually hadn't done as much as people seemed to think-

'Nate?' I jumped hearing Tony's voice in my ear. I turned to him, cocking up an eyebrow.

'Yeah?'

He laughed, 'you're looking so spaced out right now... You okay?'

'No, yeah, I'm fine, sorry, what?'

'Sephy was saying, doing this in such a big group isn't such a good idea.' I looked up at her and our eyes met for seconds before hers slid down. I looked away and went to put a chip in my mouth but found I had only two left. Had I been eating them whilst I was 'spaced-out' or was someone sneaking them? I slid my eyes to Sam’s plate which was empty.

'What do you think?' Sam asked still chewing something. I was sure it was one of my missing chips...

'Well, yeah, it's not really working, is it? Doesn't take a leader to realise that,' I answered with a small smile on my face.

'Well, this isn't exactly going to work if we can't talk about it together,' Mel began twirling a strand of her long black hair around her index finger.

'Yeah, Mel's right.' Another girl with a pixie face and short blonde hair spiked up who I was sure I'd seen around quite often before added. 'I think the two leaders should talk actually. They can just update us, can't you?' she turned to Sephy. Most of the table agreed, but Sephy looked completely against the idea. She turned to me and narrowed her eyes, like it was my fault. I chuckled, earning an even blacker glare.

'That's a great idea!!' Sam grinned practically vibrating in his chair. 'You guys talk, tell us, we talk, tell you, you guys talk... It'll work!' I shook my head. Sam with coffee was bad.

'No,' Sephy said, completely ignoring me now.

'Come on Sephy, it's for the band, you can't say that!' Tabby pleaded. 'Please...' Sephy was silent for a minute before she sighed wearily.

'Whatever. For the band.' I stared at her, confused. Did she hate me now? Girls were so confusing sometimes.

'Hey, how about you guys do that now? Stay here and we go... Or something.' Adam suggested.

'What?!' Both me and Sephy turned to him, alarmed.

'Oh. Okay. Maybe not,' he laughed.

'No, I see, that would be a good idea, then we can know by tomorrow because it's actually pretty soon, considering we have to practice and everything.' Sammie agreed. Sephy's scowl deepened and it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I chuckled again, trying to keep it in but failing. Across the table I could see Sephy struggling to keep her face in a frown, only making me laugh more, and then everyone's faces as Sephy started laughing too.

Soon the whole table was in fits.

'Right, so let’s pay and go!' Sam said once everyone had calmed down. Sephy still wasn't looking at me properly, but she seemed to be okay about the whole thing at least.

'Bill please!' he shouted, raising his hand. I ducked. Sometimes, he was just too embarrassingly loud, hyper and annoying for his own good.

'Are you ready to pay?' I turned slightly to my right to see the cute blonde waitress that had been serving us and smiled.

'Yeah, I think we pretty much are,' I replied. Turning around to let everyone know, I caught Sephy throwing a cold look at the waitress, and the waitress throwing one right back. Did they know each other from somewhere?

Next Sephy's eyes lowered to me. Her glare was almost as hard as before. Shit. What had I done now?

I shook myself inwardly and tried to concentrate on other things.

'Okay everyone, it's billing time,' I said authoritatively. Everyone began to get out their money, the boys passing it over to me, the girls (and Adam,) to Sephy. I looked up at her.

'Hey.' I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was the waitress. Her face was inches from mine, her glossy lips pulled into a sexy smile.

'My name is Gina. Gina Teak,' she whispered into my ear. 'What's yours?'

'Nathan King,' I grinned, 'nice to meet you.'

She winked at me and her lips opened as though she was about to say something when she was interrupted- 'Excuse me, Nathan, let’s go and pay,' Sephy said drily. She was already getting up, but she looked right through me.

'Okay. Um.... Gina was just, saying how much it was?' I said the first thing that came to mind, glancing at Gina. She looked strangely pleased.

Why had I lied exactly?

My head whirled in confusion. It was the kind of feeling you get when you are singing a song you know really well with other people, but they are all singing the same lyrics and you are singing some other random shit. Or something.

'Gina?' Sam asked with mischief evident in his eyes. I kicked him swiftly under the table as I moved to stand up.

'Ow!' Sam shouted but turned it into a cough as I glared at him.

'If you'd like to follow me, Nathan,' Gina grinned at me. I followed her, Sephy not too far behind.

At the till we paid the money required. 'Thank you,' Gina said as we turned to go.

I nodded at her, 'you’re welcome.' Sephy stared stonily on as we turned to return to the table.

Gina smiled, 'hey Nathan.' Both me and Sephy looked back at her. She took my hand in hers, 'you don't happen to be in a band do you?' I raised my eyebrows.

'Yeah. Did you hear us talking about it or something?'

She grinned, 'well, yeah. And I think I've seen you play. You're one of the Horn guys, right? You are amazing.'

I chuckled, 'thanks! And not really, we're all just dorks in a band to be honest.'

She laughed, 'no, you've got real talent! Anyway, hope to see you again soon, or here... I will, won't I?'

'Yeah, sure!' I nodded happily. She winked at me and turned around leaving a piece of paper in my hand. I looked down at it to see numbers written on the scrap paper and Gina's name. Looking back around, I noticed Sephy heading towards our table.

I pushed it into my pocket before Sam saw it and I lost £5.
