I was eager to get to the hotel now; to see Niall after Harry told me how he felt. Every time I replayed Harry's words in my head, my stomach erupted with butterflies, and I felt so giddy that all I wanted to do was giggle with joy.
"Allie, Niall is totally in love with you."
With me. In love...with me. I was still confused on how I could be so sure that I was falling for Niall: it had only been a few weeks since the concert. But...I don't know. There was something so definite about it. Like I just knew in my soul that it was true.
I tried to keep up a conversation with Harry as we walked on the Boardwalk, but his answers were one-worded or not very well thought out. I felt terrible. Here I am, psyched about what could potentially be the best news I've ever recieved, while he's miserable, trying to get over my best friend.
Oh, Harry.
I gave up on talking to him as we passed Giorgio's. He slipped his hands in his pockets and kept his eyes trained on the ground. Every so often, a curl would slip into his eyes, but it seemed as if he didn't even notice. He stared, unblinking, until the wind blew the curl behind his ear.
I cleared my throat. "Harry...I really am sorry."
"You've got nothing to be sorry for," he told me, his voice empty of emotion.
"No...I do. I just feel so..." I trailed off as I heard my voice being called from behind me. I turned around. "D...Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" Harry asked in a monotone voice.
I heard it again. My voice being called from behind me.
It sounded like it was coming from...Giorgio's.
"C'mon," I told Harry, and I grabbed his hand, pulling him over towards the entrance.
"Allie."
I did a double take when I saw Elizabeth. Oh. That's who was calling me. Hesitantly, I walked over to her with Harry by my side. I felt a bit less tense with him next to me.
"Hello Elizabeth," I said delicately.
"Allie, I need to tell you something," Elizabeth said quickly, her voice urgent. She looked around to make sure no one was listening.
"W-what's going on?" I bit my lip, confused. What was suddenly so urgent that she needed to tell me?
"Allie...he left this morning. Your...your father. He left me a note saying that...he was going looking for you," she murmered, her eyes never leaving mine. "I don't know what he's going to do, but just to be safe..."
"Oh my God," I whispered. The giddy feeling of happiness about Niall ebbed away, leaving only distress in it's wake. "He's...He's...Oh my God." Harry's green eyes widened; it seemed, momentarily, that Lucy was off his mind.
"I don't think you should stay here," Elizabeth continued warily. "I don't know...I don't know what he's trying to do. It could be completely harmless, but all the same...I know what he did to you...He could be a threat."
My heart sank and my head pounded. My father...my father was coming for me. Oh no. This...this is not good.
"I'd been waiting for you to come by...I didn't know how else to contact you," Elizabeth finished. She handed me a piece of paper with a cell phone number inscripted on it. "If you need any help...just call me, okay? To make sure you're safe..." She trailed off. "Hopefully, he just wanted to...make things, right..."
I nodded, unable to speak, and slipped the paper into my pocket. Everything was happening so fast...I barely had a chance to catch my breath anymore. I swear, I was going to have a heart attack from all this stress.
