I went to bed early last night after the interview training with Hyo Joo. She was kind enough to give me some tips and tricks for the interview.
I went over the interview tips as I washed my face and took a shower.
Smile. Bow. Firm handshake. Sit straight. Show them your resume. Be yourself.
I kept running the lines in my head as I put on the outfit that I have set out last night. A white mock neck blouse with black lace on the ends. Mother always said that elegance is key when we want to show introduce ourselves. I put on my black slacks and tucked in my blouse. I checked out myself in front of the mirror and wondered if I would look better if I wore something else.
No time for second thoughts now.
I put on some makeup and curled my hair into some loose curls. I put on my black coat because the winter calls for it.
No one should be roaming the streets in this kind of weather.
I grabbed my purse and my file for the interview. I locked the doors and did some mental checks.
Keys, checked. Purse, checked. Handphone, checked. File, checked.
I went downstairs to Hyo Joo's apartment to tell her that I was leaving for the interview despite having an extra hour and a half before the scheduled interview time.
"Y/N, you're early. I was going to call you down for breakfast before the interview." said Hyo Joo.
I blanked out as she kept talking to me. The only reasonable thing to do at that time was to hug her. I hugged her with all my might to calm down but my heart was beating faster.
Calm down. Calm down. You still have an hour and a half till the interview. It's not like it's your first interview or anything.
I wiped my sweaty palms on my pants as I untangle myself from Hyo Joo.
"Girl, you are going to do just fine. It will be easy breezy and you won't even notice anything out of order" Hyo Joo said as she noticed that I was breathing heavily. She sat me down at the dining table and insisted that I have breakfast with her before the interview or else she would increase rent.
The table was full of side dishes, egg rolls, kimchi, fried anchovies, bean sprouts, tofu, seaweed soup and rice.
"A breakfast table fit for a princess, not enough for a queen yet." Hyo Joo smiled. "You should dress up more often, you look pretty in that blouse and makeup."
I smiled as I ate the breakfast that she had prepared for me. I have never gotten the habit to dress up because I didn't care much about how I looked in front of people when I went to university. I always put on the same comfy clothes and had the same hairstyle throughout my whole time here in Seoul. Only on some occasions, I dress up but those were very rare occasions.
"Unni, what if I blank out when they ask me questions? What if I don't know anything that they were saying? An interpreter? I don't think I have the skills to interpret for someone?" I blurted out all the questions that have been on my mind ever since I came out of the shower this morning.
Hyo Joo laughed loudly as I stare at her with an annoyed face. "It's not funny, unni." I said to Hyo Joo as she kept laughing.
"The moment you stepped into my apartment this early morning I knew you would say those things with that face." She said as she waved her hands in front of her face. "It's just another job interview, think of it as an internship, you did well during those internship interviews."
"This is different, at least internship was well within my degree and all the things that I have learned for the past 3 years in Seoul. This job is different." I said with my mouth full because of stress eating.
