I dedicate this to my little sister.

I woke to a close thud. It was dark as I climbed out of bed and crept to the door. I paused to let my eyes adjust, then cracked the door open.
Once I was in the hallway, I reached into the closet and pulled out my gun. I already knew how to use it, thanks to my mother's thinking ahead. She taught me at age thirteen.

I prayed I wouldn't have to use it against anyone.
As the hallway ends, I creep into the dining room. It only takes a few steps to see someone move in the kitchen. I cuss under my breath and sink into an army crawl position.

My curly, black hair shifted into my eyes and I had to flick it twice before it finally moved. Sometimes I hated my looks because they gave me too much unwanted attention. People always commented on my "fair mix skin, and beautiful emerald colored eyes". Yeah right.

When I looked up again, I could make out the outline a body moving towards me. My eyes widened and I scrambled into a corner so I wasn't stepped on. I stood up, took a deep breath, and took the safety off of the gun. It clicked loudly in the silence of the apartment.
The body froze mid-step.

"I will shoot. " I threaten, hoping my words sound convincing. I flip the light on. I blink as I take in the sight before of me.
It's a boy, and from the looks of it he's not much older than me. And he's staring at me. I stare back and see he doesn't look like he thinks he's in the wrong at all. He had black hair and eyes a blue I'd never seen before.

At first I'm confused. What do I have that is so important that some teenager had to break into my apartment? Then I see what's in his hands and I can't help but laugh.

"Really? You broke into my apartment for some worn out sneakers? " I ask pointing to his right hand.

I still have the gun aimed at him when he replies, "It's not really stealing if your mom is letting me borrow them."

I shake my head saying, "I don't really believe you." At my remark he smirks. "Who are you?"
As I lower the gun, he shrugs and says, " My name isn't important but I'll tell you something else... " I raise an eyebrow and wait for his answer.
"Autumn, your mother sent me to retrieve and train you."

I don't plan on writing anything more unless someone says I should keep going.
