I met him outside with my backpack and a fresh pair of clothes.  With my hair in a messy ponytail, I went over everything I had.

I smiled, pleased with myself.  I was wearing a gray t-shirt and black skinny jeans, with my gun tucked into my waistband.

My backpack containing water, non-perishables, extra bullets, a knife (just in case), a baggy sweatshirt, an extra pair of clothes, flashlights, batteries, a hammock, and a first aid kit.
    A lot, I know.

I made sure to brush my teeth, and pack my tooth utensils too.

As I walked over to where the boy was standing, he looked me over once and nodded.  I looked back at the small apartment I once called home and sighed.  It was bound to happen one way or another.

When I looked back towards the boy, he was already walking away.  As I caught up I said, "You never told me your name."  He glanced towards me.  At first, I didn't think he'd say anything.
I nudge him again.  "Nathan."  He said.

I held back a grin.  "So Nathaniel, " He glares at me. "When are you going to give me the map to Mom's hideout?"  In response, he pulled a large paper from his drawstring bag.  I stared, curious.
"Here."  He passed me the map and as I unfurled it, a small envelope slipped into the grass.

I bent down to pick it up but Nathan got to it before me.  He started to open it but I snatched it from his grasp and tore it open.

"Hello my beautiful Autumn.  I want you to know, you can trust Nathaniel.  He may distant and mysterious at first, but he has a good heart.  Just give him a chance.  With this letter you should have a map.  Follow it and I should see you soon.
I love you my darling girl.  Safe journeys.
~Your mom."

As I lower the letter, I notice Nathan is hovering over my shoulder.  I press the letter to my chest so he can't see it.  It felt personal all of a sudden, even though it made me a little more upset with mom.

What'd it say?

I blink tears away.  "Please stop talking into my head."
We were already at the edge of the City, where it meets the forest.
"It said to trust you."  I step closer to the edge of the forest.  "But you don't."  He said.  I shook my head.  "Not yet."

He took out his knife, I pulled out my gun, and we walked into the forest together.
