Fall into my confusing journey

Chapter 10

As he senses the block, he smirks and I can feel him prying. I raise my eyebrows and he wiggles his in return. I laugh and start running back towards the cave.

When I glance back, Nathan is so close, I'm surprised he hasn't tripped over my heels yet. I laugh again, running faster until I was sprinting. I hear his chuckle farther away so, confused, I turn and see him running ten feet away. And five feet behind him, is a royal android chasing us.

Nathan hasn't seemed to notice yet, so I reach out with my mind. Nathan! He smiles but when he notices the terror on my face it drops like a potato. What happened?! He asks, panic creeping into his mental voice.

The robot is getting closer and closer, raising the solar gun in our direction. My eyes widen in absolute horror. Nathan! Behind you! He swiveled out of the way just in time. The beam flew past him right in the nick of time, splitting the tree in half causing it to bend.

I keep running and soon, Nathan is right beside me. My lungs burn. This game of tag has turned into a game of catch. And not the good kind. How did they find us?

I know when you're running from something or someone, you aren't supposed to look back, but I had to make sure. As my head turns, I see the robot close enough to hear it saying, "Halt! Stop in the name of his Majesty."

My blood froze along with my body. The last time I heard someone say "his Majesty", was during a horrible incident. Flashes. The sound of a whip cracking. The pain.

Nathan pulls on my arm, trying to get me moving again. I'm terrified. He seems to know and pulls harder. "Come on! Snap out of it! We have to go!" I start moving again. As I began running once more, I caught a glimpse of the android raising its gun again.

It was at this moment that I felt the true fear I felt in the beginning. I faced Nathan and he was still tugging on my arm. Everything slowed down.

I whimpered as I heard the beam whizzing toward us. First, all I felt was a burning pain in my left arm and the next thing I know there are two hands pushing me from behind into a ditch disguised as tall grass. I kind of expected some sort of Pokémon to pop out and battle me until I remembered where I was. I'm not in the virtual world right now.

Jeez. I need to get my life together.

Arms were around me as I fell, tumbling, and scrapping my body. When the world finally stopped spinning and the yellow birds finally disappeared, I noticed that the ground was warm and soft like cotton. I sniffed it. Huh. It kinda smells like sweaty fabric.

I dug my fingers into it, not to find soil, but a T-shirt. Nathan grunts in pain. I gasp and frantically try to peel myself off of Nathan's body. "Sorry."

My eyes widen in shock as his hand cradles my head and gently pulls me back to his chest. I try to steady my breathing as I listen to his rapid heartbeat. We're just laying here. On the ground. Me on top of him. Nothing to be awkward about. Nope. Nothing at all.

This is totally normal. Every person does this....Right?

We tense as we hear the android's loud treads coming coming closer. It wasn't until Nathan tightens his grip on my body that I realize I'm trembling.

"Come out! We have you surrounded." I narrow my eyes. The android lied. The waves surrounding us are bright. Since when do droids lie? When were they programmed to do that?

As Nathan met my gaze, I shake my head ever so slightly to signal the lie.

The sting on my arm soon felt heavier and a lot more painful so when Nathan's arm brushed it, my face contorted in agony and my breathing turned shallow as I tried not to cry out.

I felt Nathan's head move to examine my arm. When I heard him whisper a profanity, I automatically knew it was bad. The androids treads were getting further and further away, plus the waves I sent out were getting smaller so now I know it's okay to move.

Apparently, Nathan didn't get the memo so I leaned close to his ear and whispered, "The droid is gone. You can let go of me now." He hesitates at first, but did as I asked.

As we stood, I checked out my arm. The blood soaked my sweatshirt. Now it was my turn to curse. How did the android hit me? I'm pretty sure the aim was off. I can't underestimate them again.

The manufacturers are getting better. They're programming them to lie and now their aim is better. What else is new? Have the droids completely taken over human jobs? Sooner or later the droids are going to take over everything including the monarchy. What then? Will they kill the humans or will they force us into slavery. Will we have to go into hiding? Because if humans can't already accept each other now, how will we live later when us as humans don't even have power anymore?

I shiver. I think I liked it better when I was a young innocent child who couldn't watch horror movies and was satisfied with my cars. Back when I thought humans lived peacefully in harmony.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Nathan cleared his throat. I glance up to see him watching me. Right then at that moment my stomach decides to growl. He chuckles still watching me. I look away, shoving my hands in my pockets.

After a moment of silence, Nathan clears his throat again. "Come on. We should probably treat your wound and put some food in your stomach." In response, my face heats up, I duck my head, and start speed walking to the cave.

OML! Guess what?!

I found a new novel to read irl! It's a Marissa Meyer book! She's the same author who wrote The Lunar Chronicles! Anyway, the novel is called Renegades. And it's a super amazing book! I finished it in like two days. Which I know is a super long time for only 552 pages but I have a life other than books sadly. Also, we went to a pet store and saw the cutest puppy ever!!! He was so chill unlike the other puppies there. His pen mate was one of those playful puppies and Sueño (which is what we called the chill dog) just looked like he wanted to go to sleep. The other one kept on jumping on Sueño. He's a French Mastiff puppy btw and here's a picture.
