After I was sure he wasn't saying anything else, I lowered and put the safety back on my gun. Then I pretended to not know what he was talking about.
I tilted my head to the side and asked innocently, "What type of training?" Although I know, I still hope for a different answer.

You know exactly what type of training.
My eyes widen when I hear his voice inside of my head. All of my courage leaves me and I start trembling in fear. "No." I whisper. My hands travel to my ears, covering them, my gun forgotten on the floor. "No I don't--" I shake my head.
I can't believe my mom would send someone so soon.

The boy takes my hands and holds them out in front of me. Hands over your ears aren't going to block a voice out of your head. Besides, where we're going, you're going to depend on you abilities more.

I ripped my hands away, a newfound feeling of anger giving me courage. "I'm not going anywhere with you." When I looked at him again, he seemed amused though there wasn't anything funny about this.

Actually, Autumn, this is hilarious. Your mother told me you would act like this.
Get out of my head! He smirks and I gasp. He did that on purpose!

Your mother said that if you aren't willing to participate, offer you something as trade. If you still don't participate, I have permission to kidnap you. Chills went down my spine, not because he said it so naturally, but because my mother would say something like that.

I look at him, suspicious. "What are you willing to offer?" He smiled but something about it seemed strained.

"I'm willing to offer two things I don't think you can pass up... " He hesitated before saying, "I'm willing to offer a map to your mother's hideout for 'gifted students' and a way to block a voice out of your head entirely."

At that moment, I knew I didn't have any choice at all.
