Alexander's POV

"Right everybody! Come here!" George, the ringmaster and owner of the Freedom Circus, called us over. "I need to check that everyone is here. James Madison, contortionist."

"Yes, I'm here." James Madison had short, curly hair and he himself, was short.

"Gilbert and Hercules, trapeze artists."

"Yep, I'm here, I can speak for myself, y'know!" They both said in perfect synchronization. Lafayette (Gilbert) had poofy hair pulled into a bun and Hercules wore a beanie upon his head. They were both very tall.  Lafayette was around six foot and Hercules being six foot three.

"John Laurens, magician."

"John the Fantastic and yes, I'm here." He grinned. He had curly hair fastened into a low ponytail. He had a black tailcoat with a matching tophat.

"Aaron Burr, acrobat."

"Uh-huh." Aaron had a shaved hairstyle as he was balanced on a football.

"Finally, Thomas and Alexander, tightrope dancers."

"Yep." I said. I didn't like performing with Thomas. He's a bitch, basically. It'll be my third performance with him. I kept saying that it wasn't safe to throw me and for me to land on the floor on my hands as a finale but the stubborn asshat got his way.

As we were practising the finale, I nearly landed on my shoulders rather than my hands.

"This isn't nearly safe, Jefferson!" I shouted up.

"Look out, idiot!" Thomas shouted as I looked to my side and saw James in a tiny glass box as he frowned at me through the glass. I sighed.

"Sorry, James!" I called as I was climbing back up to the tightrope. After the four meter climb, Jefferson said, "Right, from the top. One, two, three, four." We cartwheeled along the rope until we met in the middle. As I leaned back, he backflipped over me. He put his hands up as I leaped to make a handstand on top on him. He threw me off and we hung off the rope by our ankles. Then he got up grabbed my ankles and threw me. Everything went into slow motion. As I twisted and turned in the air I heard a scream.

"HAMILTON! TURN AROUND!" That's the last thing I heard before impact.

Thomas' POV

"HAMILTON! TURN AROUND!" I screamed as Alexander fell towards the floor. Everyone got off the equipment and ran towards him. A loud smack was heard. He had hit the floor. No crash mat, just a normal gymnasium floor. I slid down the ladder and ran over to him. I've probably accidentally killed the man I've known and loved since High School. Not that he knew that anymore.

Flashback

"Hey, Alexander! Wait up, man!" I shouted as I ran towards the shorter boy. It was our last day of High School and it was over. Six weeks of freedom. He turned around.

"Oh, Hi Thomas." He smiled. "You ok?" I felt tears well up in my eyes. I was going to Liberty University when Alexander was going to King's College. I wasn't usually one to cry over friendships and relationships but mine and Alexander's was one that I didn't want to go to waste. I'd known him since freshmen year when he moved into the country. We instantly clicked and we'd go to eachother's house to do homework. I also had James coming to Liberty Uni with me but Alexander is a smartass. A good smartass so it's good to have him around.

"I-I'm going to miss you, man." I sobbed.

"Yes, you can come over." He said as he pulled me into a hug. I kissed the top of his head. Our High School isn't very accepting of gays but fuck it, we've graduated.

"Can we go to mine?" I asked, looking down at Alex.

"Sure!" He grinned and raced ahead. I caught up with him and picked him up bridal style. We laughed as I carried him all the way to my house. I fiddled with my keys and opened the door. I had put him down at this point. I quickly shouted "Hi Mom!" and raced upstairs and turned on my gamecube. After an hour of hugs and Super Smash Bros, I heard:

"Thomas! James is here!"

"Send him up, please mom!" I shouted back. I hear him coming up the the stairs and my door swing open.

"Tommy!" James jumped on me and laughed.

"Tommy?" I heard Lexi say as James gave me a soft kiss. "Thomas, is this some sORT OF FUCKING JOKE?!" Alex screamed. He pulled me down to his height. "What th-the actual hell?" He started crying.

"T-Tommy?" I heard James squeak.

"Not now Jemmy..." I sighed after Alexander loosened his grip. He stared at me.

"Oh, you have NICKNAMES?" He sob-shouted.

"I didn't want to hurt either of you..." I stared at the floor.

"Too f-fucking l-l-ate." He stormed out of my house.

End of flashback

I sat in the hospital waiting room. Me, James and Mr. Washington sat there anxiously.

"You can go and see him now..." A woman said. I practically ran into the room. Numerous wires were attached to him as Alexander looked up.

"Huh? O-oh, Hi Mr. Washington, James...T-." Alex paused. There was a look in his eyes. Regret, sadness or pain. Maybe even all three.

"Hi..." I said shyly. I'm not the shy type. I just go quiet and introverted when I'm nervous. I felt tears prick my eyes but I didn't let any spill out. I wanted to go and kiss him. Me and James decided to break things off and stay friends. There's no saltiness, we're just great friends. I took a look at Washington. The man who had been with me thick and thin since I started work at the circus. Then I looked at Alexander. I still loved him. S h i t.

"I-I'll be right back." I shot off to the car and pulled a bouquet [the actual fuck is that spelling?] of blue roses off the backseat. I pegged it back upstairs and stopped to walk into the room. I handed the flowers to Alexander and looked at him in the eyes. "I am so, so sorry, Alexander. I'm such a bitch for what I did...and what I made you do..."

"It's ok, Thomas..." He smiled. I couldn't hold it back any longer and hugged him tightly. I loved this man.

And it's heartwarming to know he loves me back.
