Chapter 3: I Fought The Law

Newt POV 

I'd seen the others leave but I was still sat having blood taken. They wouldn't let me leave even though I'd had a physical test, been given a vitamin cocktail injection and had blood taken. Everything the others had had done I have too. Maybe something was wrong, maybe it was because I'd been in the maze the longest although Minho had gotten there only a month after me. 

"Call Janson hes here" I heard the doctor say to one of the guards which put me on guard. I acted like I didn't hear him but I tried keeping him in my sight. That was until he walked behind me anyway. As I sat tensely waiting for something to happen I saw Ratman walking in as the guard who the doctor spoke to spoke to him about something or other. They both looked over at me but the doctor came into my line of sight blocking Janson from view. I looked over at the closed curtain Teresa was behind as she was the only other glader in here. I saw the curtain opening and Teresa was wearing hospital clothes, a strapped top and loose fitting cotton pants. I looked at the doctor as he spoke to me. 

"Please change into these" he said holding out some clothes. He moved away closing a curtain and I looked t clothing given to me. Cotton pants similar to the ones I saw Teresa wearing as a cotton shirt that had thicker sleeves than Teresa's but was still sleeveless. I changed into the clothes as re-opened the curtain to see the doctor talking to Ratman as they looked over at some notes he was holding. They hadn't seen me so I quietly made my way outside the curtain closing it behind me and moved across the room to where Teresa was sat deep in thought. 

"Hey Teresa you okay?" I Said approaching her startling the girl and she jumped before she looked up and saw me stood before her. 

"Yeah fine just thinking I guess" she said an I moved to sit next to her. She shifted uncomfortably and I looked at her confused. "Sorry just I've never spoken to any of you without Tom being there" she said an I nodded since after Teresa woke up they were practically joined at the hip. 

"Yeah well you'll have to get use to us, we'll be around to annoy you for a while espeacially Minho" I Said making her chuckle just as the doctors seemed to start panicking. 

"What's wrong with them?" Said Teresa curiously as she leaned over me to try see what the doctors and guards were fussing about. 

"Well they probably think I'm missing since I was suppose to be behind that curtain changing" I Said as I pointed to where I was previously stationed and saw a hastily pulled open curtain and Janson talking furiously to some guards. I saw him point out way and a guard looked over and had to do a double take before he motioned to me and Teresa. I saw Janson look confused before he looked over and seemed to sigh dejected. 

"Newt could I suggest something?" Said Teresa questioningly as Janson started talking to a nurse. I frowned at her but nodded non the less and she smiled like this would be the last time she would see me. "Try remember someone anyone, maybe hopefully even me" she said before looking past me her eyes widening making me looked towards my right just as a needle went into my arm. 

Soon after everything was dark.

Thomas POV 

After talking with Janson who seemed eager to leave I headed towards the food hall to meet up with the other Gladers. I looked on in shock at the amount of people I saw when I came in. I was expecting a small amount of people more than the gladers who I'd arrived with but there was at least 70 more people maybe. 

"Hey yo Thomas you gotta check this out, we weren't the only maze" Said Minho once he'd spotted me looking lost as I surveyed the other teenagers around me. He led me over to a table where I saw Frypan and Winston, no Newt. We started talking to the two boys opposite us who told us about their maze. 

"Hello everyone I'm sure you know how this works. I read a name out and if your name is called you come forward ready to start your new life" Said Ratman when he came into the food hall. He read out a list of names but non of the gladers were included neither were the boys infront of us. 

"Where they going?" Asked Minho once the kids left followed by Janson. 

"Somewhere far away from here. A safe haven a farm free from WICKED" Said one of the boys infront of us. I looked to my right to see Teresa walking down a hall seperate by glass and doctors pushing a trolley behind her which held a person covered in tubes and wires. But I could see who it was, Newt. 

"What the hell?" I said louder than I meant to and stood heading for a door where I could walk through and meet Teresa. I shouted her name and she looked away from Newt who she was looking at worriedly to look at me in the last second before she disappeared and I was stopped by guards. 

"This areas restricted" Said the arsehole guard. 

"Where are they taking them?" I Said to him and he looked behind him slightly before he turned his head back to look at me. My suspicion was high and I'm sure if he was here that he would call me a 'bloody idiot'. 

"They just need to run some more tests she'll be back soon" he said only mentioning Teresa and I frowned, Why was he avoiding talking about Newt? 

"What about Newt?" I asked since he wasn't going to give me an answer. 

"Go back to your seat" was his only reply and he gripped his gun a little tighter nodding his head to where I was previously sat. 

Guard raised.
