Newt POV

It had been 6 months since I'd last seen anyone from the glade. I'd gone to the nearest city and partied for a while before moving on. After a week of walking and living off minimal food and water I'd found a city that wasn't overrun by cranks or burnt beyond compare. A fully functional city. The only bad thing was that WICKED ran the city meaning they would catch me. Over the next few months I'd lived with a crank who didn't have a nose, Lawrence. He was a businessman at heart and although he claimed to want to help me I knew better. He was similar to WICKED, doing anything to get what he wants. I'd been reunited with Gally and we managed to find a way into the city although we decided it would be safer if only we knew.

It had been 6 months since I'd seen the other gladers and 4 since I'd joined the group Lawrence ran (controlled) and the doors to the city were closed. For how long, probably until everyone was dead. We were patrolling like usual although since I was Lawrence's 'secret weapon' only 2 people knew of my existence, Lawrence and Gally. I had my grey hood up my face covered. I was wearing my long lightweight trench coat which was tan coloured due to the amount I'd worn it and the dirt it was covered in, it had a grey hood which someone attached to it for times like this. I had a red button up shirt on although I left it open to reveal a dark grey loose fitting material vest. On my bottom half I was wearing faded black ripped jeans and tan combat boots.

Fingering the gun in my hip holster with my fingers which were left open from my fingerless worn black material gloves as I saw someone in the truck look at some people in the crowd for an extended period of time until they were out of site. I moved swiftly through the crowd making sure I was ready to incapacitate whoever had caught Gallys eye but I saw the back of one of their heads moving forward more towards the city.

As I reach them I grabbed the girl who had gotten lost in the crowd ruffly pulling her along with me. She struggled in my grip but she wasn't any match and I managed to pull her into an abandoned alleyway when the guns started shooting. Sighing I pinned the struggling girl to the wall so her front was pressed against it and held her still as I tried to hack into the guns.

As my mainframe worked I heard distant shouts yelling a name which was faint due to the buzz of electrics in my head. Failing, again at being able to hack into WCKD before the guns stopped I dragged the girl along towards the trucks and met Gally in the alleyway handing the girl over before leaving, heading back to my little hole in the wall.

-TIMESKIP-

A few hours after I'd given Gally the girl I was sat on top of a building with a tennis ball that I'd acquired before I'd gotten here. I was throwing it at a wall before it would bounce back and the process repeated over and over again. I heard growls from underneath me and threw some of the raw meat down from next to me, feeding the cranks that acted as my guard dogs whilst I was exactly that to the people outside of the city walls who were hoping to get in.

Those who'd met me have called me a guardian angel protecting them from the animalistic cranks, calling me a saviour. But I'm neither.

I helped to ease my guilty conscious. I should have gone after Minho but yet here I am sitting with a fucking tennis ball feeding my pet cranks to pass the time before me and Gally went into the city so I could get closer to the WCKD headquarters as I was making progress in my hacking and was nearly through the firewalls. Yet another thing that was kept from Lawrence.

"Hey, you doing alright?" Asked Gally as he came up the side of the building using the hand and foot holes that was created instead of going through the cranks as yes they are chained up but no matter where you were stood one could get you, the perfect protection.

"Yeah just sitting and waiting" I told him and he nodded with a laugh although he probably thought I meant waiting for him, no I mean the I was waiting for insanity to take me, like it did to the cranks below my feet, like it did to most of the population. I was infected although nobody ever saw my skin beyond that of my face due to thinking I wanted to hide the electric veins and the scars from surgery that was still the pink colour they were when I'd woken up.

"Look some people showed up and they want a way to get into the city to save their friend. You coming?" Asked Gally and I looked at him questioningly. Why would Gally offer a chance into the city to strangers? Or maybe they weren't so strange?

"Who?" I asked standing up helping Gally up as he held his arm out. Quickly pulling him up I threw the rest of the raw meat down and heard the shrieks from the hungry cranks as they fought to grab some. Gally grimaced, He always thought it was disgusting how I kept them chained up as pets and fed them but at least they won't starve to death, right?

"Thomas" said Gally as I walked ahead of him towards the buildings edge. I paused as I heard a name I hadn't heard since I'd gotten here and Gally asked questions. Although the name should bring joy to me it didn't. After I'd left them all I became more computer, more of the solider WCKD wanted me to be, designed me to be. I'd denied myself from forming any emotional connection and when I met Gally only a flicker of emotion appeared but when Thomas was mentioned, nothing.

"Let's go" I Said and jumped over the edge, of the building and my last remaining humanity.
