Chapter 11: Born For This

Ava POV 

6 months ago we'd lost WCKD's greatest achievement, Solider X or Newt as some called him. He was an intelligent system who after being conceived in the lab in an artificial womb was born into being a lab rat and preparing his body for the Solider X weapons system. Although it wasn't used as a weapon the electrics its self it made the person a weapon in their own right. Able to rip a persons heart from their chest using minimal strength and still have an intelligence beyond normal human capability was a feat that not many scientists were able to create. 

"Any luck locating the Solider?" I asked as Janson walked into my office. One downside of Solider X was that he was able to hide himself from any other computer even ours. We knew he stayed with The Right Arm for a few weeks as they recovered from our attack but then the tracking signal went offline. That or he died and the body remained there but after no brain activity the system shutdown. 

"Non so far bit Thomas was spotted outside the walls of the city. We opened fire and I sent some men out to find his body" Janson told me and I grew worried. If Thomas is here how close is Solider X if he's alive? 

"Alright but I want him found and if possible increase the search for the Solider" I told him before turning back to watching Teresa with the young girl who we think could possibly be cured. Janson didn't reply and just walked away as I continued to observe the now healthy girl, so Subject A7 was a possible cure. 

I just hope we could find the Solider and bring him in alive espeacially if my theory was correct.

Newt POV 

I followed Gally to where we were meeting with Thomas and his companions. I'd put my hood up and anyone we past looked at me in a mix of awe and fear. I kept my head down so it was practically impossible to see my face and decided to put the scarf I had around my face and did just that and lifted my head up to reveal the electric blue eyes that people have come to know. 

"Please help!! Help!!" A voice Screeched off in the distance to quiet for Gally to hear but I rushed in that direction climbing on buildings and running in streets until I reach a young women who was very clearly underweight and weak being attacked by a now feral cranks. She saw me and sighed although she continued to defend herself. I ran over tackling the crank as Gally came rushing to the scene followed by Thomas & co just as I'd locked the cranks arms behind its back and got a mouth guard onto it. As I stood it hopped up rushing forward  it was restricted by the chains. "Thank you" Said the women sighing before going to tend to the children inside the closest building. 

"Why hasn't he killed it?" I saw the girl ask as she looked at me with a glare probably remembering me from earlier. I heard Gally sigh and I smirked under my scarf which covered the lower half of my face. 

"He's got a thing where he just chains them up instead of killing them. He'll probably keep that thing with us until he goes home for the night" he said and I moved forward pushing the crank along although the wasn't complying and it tried to attack me so I pulled out my gun and shot it in the head killing it. "Or it won't do what he wants and then he'll kill it" 

"Alright well Gally Said you can get us into the city, can you?" Asked Thomas and I nodded my head motioning for him to follow me. We walked for a few minutes until a women stopped us who's son had recently become infected. She was dragging her son along behind her and he seemed paler than usual he still managed to act like he was fine like nothing bothered him although I could see past it  it chose to ignore it for his sake. I motioned for him to follow me and he did walking ahead of me a little until he stopped to wait for me. 

"Thank you" She said laying her hand on my cheek. Okay so maybe I had formed emotional connections but it was only Lucy and her children. She acted like an older sister to me and I helped her look after the children whenever I could. Sam and Sally were the oldest and were twins and then there was Franky who was 14 and she was growing up but had to kill her own father after he'd gone feral and tried to attack her older sister. 

"It's alright I'll get him help" I Said kissing Lucy's forehead before walking towards Sammy. "Trips being delayed Gally I have more important matter to attend to" I Said not turning around but I knew Gally wouldn't stop me from going to the city but he probably thought I was getting more Bliss for Sam which I had been since he became infected 3 1/2 months ago. 

But I wasn't going to buy the expensive drug, I was going to WCKD. 

"Newt, are you sure?" Asked Gally after he chased me to catch up to me knowing how important Tommy use to be to me, key word use. 

"Yeah, can't let little Sammy turn into one of those" I said stopping to look at Gally and I saw Tommy gasp from the corner of my eye and so did Frypan and the people who'd I'd seen 6 months ago but I never got there names. "Feed my cranks for me whilst I'm away" I Said in a lighter tone patting Gallys shoulder before heading away. 

Away from Gallys chuckling, Tommy and Frypan calls and Lucy's sobbing. Towards WCKD and hopefully a cure if my theory was correct.
