I am in fact, the worst player in the entire world.

------

The days flowed quickly as if it was an endless stream of water that was constantly moving, and soon enough it was Wednesday.

Another day of rubbing my temples, whilst drying my sweaty palms across my jeans. I scared to talk to Jake in that way, it was from the nervousness of screwing this whole thing up.

I was the worst person on the planet at playing someone.

"Hey, Sunset."

"Goodbye to you too." I rolled my eyes and grabbed my necessary books for my next three periods, so I wouldn't have to run into Jake everytime I needed my books.

"So, what do you say, a movie, my house, tonight." He flashes a cheeky smile.

"I say no."

"With free drinks." My ears perked at this, and I felt my eyes lit up. I looked at him again to reassure myself that there would be in fact, free drinks.

"My mom makes legendary Piña Coladas and Shirley Temples."

Ally, from two lockers away overhears the entire conversation and sends me the 'don't you dare' glare, but both she and I know I can't resist free drinks. I really don't get why I find it so special, but when someone says 'free drinks' my ears perk up as if I've never had a frappucino before.

I send her a smile saying a humble sorry, before proceeding to accept Jake's offer. He tells me he can drive me from school, but I refuse and say I'll drive there myself at eight.

One the way to Spanish, I grab both Ally and Lauren, who both seem equally mad at me, which is not very mad.

"Callie!" Lauren pretends to grimace.

"Lauren you suck at this." Ally laughs.

And suddenly, we're all laughing again. Just like old times.

When the final period bell rings, the three of us pile ourselves in my car and head home to 'prepare' me for this unofficial date. Elliot, not knowing about the situation, raises an eyebrow in our direction but let's us go with no questions asked anyway.

Although I wanted to invite Elliot over, it had been such a long time since our little triple threat group had been together, and I didn't want such a rare moment to end so quickly.

I really did feel bad though, and would end up giving her a really sheepish heartfelt apology phone call, where I would be pouring my feelings on a landline, and she would be laughing like there was no tomorrow, but that was for another time.

Once we reached my house, Lauren and Ally get started prepping me with scenarios of what could possibly happen, and what my response should be. Although We all seem to be having fun, Ally still seems reluctant towards Lauren, showing signs that she still wasn't on complete peace terms with her.

Playing a player needed only one thing, and unfortunately, that 'thing' was looks.

Neither Ally nor Lauren seemed convinced that it was simply just going to be a movie and non-alcoholic beverages. They think he's going to take me out somewhere else and just fakely pour his feelings about life and get me to trust him.

From Lauren's expertise, it sounds very likely.

Soon, I'm backing my car into a parking lot near his house and walking the rest of the way. His house is beyond grand, but I don't pay much attention to it because according to myself, I shouldn't get too intertwined with his life before I get hooked.

I do admire its' surroundings though, and while I'm doing so, the door promptly opens and I come face to face with deep blue eyes. He grins and opens the doorway for me, and I wearily follow him in, unsure of what else to do.

"Which movie?"

"Nothing romantic." I laugh.

Nothing much really happened during the so-called date. In fact, it was a simply a movie, and four latte's for me.

But then, as soon as he paused the movie and turned to look at me, I knew in that instant that Ally and Lauren's prediction was right.

"You want to check out the park nearby?" His blue eyes were practically begging me.

"Sure." Acting like a player required me to play, and to successfully play, I needed to pretend to be the one played.

The walk is quiet at first, but like all parks, it's filled with the echoing sound of children's laughter. For some reason, Jake seems to have some sort of mental connection with trees. But then again, the fresh air helps us think.

"What exactly did you want to do at a park, this late."

"I dunno, really." He starts. "It's just a habit of mine to observe people naturally."

"Mhmm, like you do with me?"

"How funny, Sunset."

"Ironic. The Sun had set hours ago."

Then he burst out laughing. For some reason, he found my statement enthralling. "You're sense of humor is out of this world."

I just stared at him like he was some sort of alien, and this just made him laugh harder until he was literally gasping for air. I walked beside him and began patting his back pretending that he was choking.

"Okay." He says after a good five minutes of laughing. "That just made my day."

I stare at him in disbelief. "And I pray it never happens again."

Then we both start laughing.

I am in fact, the worst player in the entire world.
