Maybe I'm no one special, just another one.

------

I knew the boys enjoyed going to strange places to hang out, yet I was still surprised when I had found out the venue of this -so-called- 'convention' that Jake had been quick to shut me down when I had asked about it, which made me curious to what I would hear.

The boys had picked a large pub to mingle in, however, since they didn't reserve the entire place, there were other people there as well, so, the girls and I stayed at a small corner near enough to eavesdrop, but in a place, they couldn't see us.

Of course, I was well aware that the last time I had done this, Ally had simply caught me an hour into our coffee meetup, so this time, I made sure to be extra cautious.

Darren was one of the few people who could pick up details.

While more and more boys piled in, I cautiously hid my face.

"Callie, you're looking more obvious by the second." Aubrey casually rolls her eyes. "Just pretend they don't exist."

"I know. I'm just worried."

"Cals, we're doing this with you, relax."

Eventually, Darren stood onto the podium and began his list of extremely corny jokes. The boys hooted and laughed and eventually came Eventually, Darren stood onto the podium and began his list of extremely corny jokes. The boys hooted and laughed and came up with their own personal alterations to the joke, pointing out jokes embedded into the original thing.

"Time for the highlight, BOYSSSS." Darren proudly announced, "I welcome, our two recently inaugurated men, Jake and Kieth."

So this celebration was to inaugurate the two players, for playing girls. No wonder Jake didn't want me to come.

"BRING IT UP FOR JAKE!" Darren yelled.

The boys gave some sort of standing applause, each and everyone hooted inexplicably loudly, making sure to add some form of twisted trademark line to emphasize their encouragement. The girls and I exchanged confused glances and went back to subtly listening to them while enjoying our mocktails.

"Tell us about the girl!" Someone from the crowd shouted, and the rest replicated his cheer. I looked up as my ears perked. I could see Darren visibly flinch. Oh, how I wonder what the statistics are saying.

"Oh yeah, Callie," Jake says, "She's as easy as any other girl to trick. Thinks she's something special, but really, I've got her all around my finger. This is going to be one hell of an easy tease, guys."

He paused to chuckle. "Hell yeah, Jake!" A boy from my physics class hooted, I think his name was Mason. "Natural heartbreaker."

"Is she as easy as her stupid best-friend to trick." William cackled. "That Lauren girl was the stupidest one I've ever met."

From the corner of my eye, I saw Lauren completely flare up, Aubrey hugged her and comforted her while I continued watching.

"Callie's no challenge, I mean, I think that even Dean could make her fall in love."

DEAN?! Dean! Dean was the classic introvert and the absolute worst heartbreaker, what an insult. I didn't flare up like Lauren, however. Instead, I digested the fact that this was the reality and an unfinished story. There were still empty pages waiting to be written, pages that could change history.

Pages that were going to be directed by yours truly, and yours truly is no longer naive.

Aubrey went to grab Lauren a bottle of freezing water, for some reason, water was Lauren's saving grace like coffee was mine.

I was about to stand up and get myself a double shot espresso, my classic order when Jake decided to continue. He had always been good with words. Someday, he'll talk his way into some fancy position, and the people who love him will never know who he truly is.

I reluctantly sat back down, curious as to see what he had chosen to say next, after all, the best way to win is to know someone's next move.

"I mean that girl is suited for becoming a valedictorian, but my god, she is dumb. I mean, I think I might be able to set the record for fastest play in the ENTIRE history of players at Narven High." His voice boomed, something I have never seen before.

At first, I thought that this wasn't anything like him, but then I realized, this was who he was, and with me, he was somebody else.

I had never thought this of the young innocent boy who I met one day sitting on my porch making the wittiest and corniest jokes. That same innocent boy had a sister going through the same thing that I was.

Let's just say, color me surprised.

Maybe I'm not one special, just another heart. I guess

If you were all for #Jallie, then I'm really sorry. I might've broken your heart right there, but I promise it'll get better, maybe. After all, (really corny reference coming up)"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

Hope you guys are all still breathing after this. :).

Do comment, I'm curious about your thoughts.
