Chapter One
---Kaitlyn's P.O.V---
My name is Kaitlyn and I am 16. I live in a small town in California called Riverside. My family is a bit different than anyone else's. My dad died when I was young and my mom doesn't spend much time with my sister and I now. She got in a big depressing stage after his death and she hasn't come out of it yet. She has gotten better though but we aren't close. My sister and I are very close though (Her name is Morgan and she is 10). I feel like I took over my mom's job to take care of her. Anyways my best friend, Annie, is coming over today so we can go to the beach. Annie and I have been friends since we first met, we are practically sisters! I can't wait until we go to the beach today.
I wake up to the sound of my sister running up and knocking at my door. She does this every morning so that I can make her breakfast. I tell her to come in and she comes and sits on my bed. "Katie, what are we having for breakfast?" She asks. "Oh I don't know, what would you like?" I respond. "PANCAKES!" She squeals. "Alright, alright. Let me get dressed and I will come down to make them for you." I say. She then scampers down the steps as I slowly get up form my bed.
I get in the shower real quick and rinse off. I hate feeling gross in the morning. I go to my closet and pick out a green V neck and some shorts. I then braid my wet brown hair. Once I am dressed I run down stairs and make her breakfast. After we eat she tells me that she is going over to a friend's house at 11:00. It is 10:30. "Well you better hurry up and get ready!" I say. She runs up and comes back down when it is 10:59. 'Just in time' I think. Then her friend's mom rings the doorbell. Morgan leaves and I have an hour before Annie comes over.
I spend my hour cleaning up because my mom works all the time and never has time for us or cleaning. When Annie arrives we decide to head straight to the beach. As we get there we set up our stuff. After about 30 minutes, I get a bit hungry. "Hey, do you want to go get a pizza or something?" I ask. She immediately responds with,"Heck yes!"
We walk over to our favorite pizza parlor and order a plain cheese pizza. Because we come here all the time we notice that there is a new waiter at the front. He is handsome and has brown hair with beautiful brown eyes. 'Did I just say beautiful brown eyes?!' I think. Annie notices me staring and pulls me over to go talk to him. "Hi, my name is Annie. this is my friend Katie." He seems nice. "Hi my name is Josh, what would you guys like?" Annie tells him a cheese pizza and we end up getting to know each other very well. He will be going to our school next year. I invite him to come eat with us because he is done with work. He agrees which I am very happy about. We go eat and talk for a while and finally we are ready to go. "Would you like to go back to the beach with us?" I ask. "Why wouldn't I?!" He answers which makes me blush a bit. Annie suggests that we go home and get drinks while he gets his bathing suit. I turns out that he lives in the same neighborhood as me! Annie gets in her car and goes home while I walk with Josh.
We talk about random stuff and our families. I learn that he used to live in Florida and he moved here for his dad's work. We are almost to the house when he tells me that he is glad that I am one of his neighbors. This makes my cheeks go red and he laughs a bit. 'That was really sweet' I think. I stare into his eyes which are so pretty I get lost in them. We stare into each other's eyes for awhile before he starts to lean in.
