I highly doubt things could have been worse. We were taken to Professor McGonagall, where we sat and waited without saying a word to each other. Hermione was trembling, Harry looked terrified, and I was stood here with wild alibis and cover ups racing around my brain.
There was no reason at all that McGonagall would accept students out of bed late at night, let alone in the tallest tower of the entire castle. Add Norbert and the Invisibility Cloak? We were doomed. I looked over at Harry, who was starting to panic, to I stepped closer to him and gently took his hand, resting my head on his shoulder.
He pulled his hand away and my heart dropped, but came back ten times stronger when he placed his arm around my waist instead. Hermione smirked at us and sent me a knowing look, but was silenced as McGonagall came marching into the room, lips non-existent and nostrils flared.
What made matters worse was that Neville was behind her. "Harry! I was trying to find you to warn you! I heard Malfoy saying he was going to catch you, he said you had a drag-" Neville began, but Harry cut him off by shaking his head violently. A gesture not missed by McGonagall, who looked livid.
"I would never have believed it of any of you. Mr. Filch says you were in the astronomy tower. It's one o clock in morning, explain yourselves." She hissed. It was the first time Hermione failed to answer a teacher.
"I think I've got a good idea of what was going on. It doesn't take a genius to work it out. You fed Draco Malfoy some cock-and-bull sorry about a dragon, trying to get him out of bed and into trouble. I've already caught him. I suppose you think it's funny that Longbottom here believed the story too?"
Neville teared up and looked extremely hurt, but the room was silent at my next words. "That's not true." I couldn't even hear myself say it, but apparently everyone else did. Shoot. Think, Silvia, think.
"Oh really? Well then Miss. Black, care to enlighten me to what happened?"
Umm....... got it! "I'm so sorry professor! It's all my fault! I was involved in a small prank of Malfoy, nothing too big I swear, and he wanted to get back at me. Hermione and I overheard him coming up with the story of a dragon to Crabbe and Goyle, trying to get Hagrid sacked and me into trouble. He said the plan was to go and warn you to come after us, but I think Neville heard the story and tried to go out and stop us. I tried to go after him but Harry and Hermione stopped me, so I snuck out to go and find Neville anyway because I didn't want him in trouble. Harry and Hermione followed me, and they had persuaded me to come back when Mr. Filch found us. It's all my fault!" I wailed, pinching my arm to make myself cry.
Harry, Hermione and Neville were at a loss for words, and McGonagall's lips seemed less thin as she crouched down beside me. "Shush, dear, it's okay. However as honourable as your intentions, you will receive detention for actions, and I'm afraid it would be against the rules not to take proper action. 50 points will be taken from Gryffindor. Each. Now leave."
Harry grabbed my arm and as soon as we were out of the room they stopped and looked back at me. So I sort of made things better, but still got detention and lost 200 points from Gryffindor. Purpose defeated. Harry took my hand when he saw my sad expression, smiling at me gently.
"That was amazing. Really, brilliant." He smiled, Hermione nodding her head happily.
I smiled sadly, kissing his cheek before wandering off upstairs to bed. Hermione giggled behind me and followed me up, both of dreading the following day. What would the Gryffindor's think?
At first, Gryffindor students passing the hourglasses the next day thought there had been some sort of mistake. It wasn't possible for them to loose 200 points in one go, was it? And then the story spread: Harry Potter, the famous Harry Potter, the hero of two Quidditch matches, and his troublemaker sidekick, me, had lost them all those points.
